Linux gaming overlay MangoHud levels up with a new release

Quoting: hornedfiendThis is awesome and I'm so glad to see linux gaming progressing with so many wonderful people actively working on it, however it still has a long way to go until it will reach windows level support with so many layers in between the silicon and the game.
I've used manjaro quite a bit, however if you're playing early access titles or epic store games, you'd have to keep using dual-boot solutions or gpu pass through, which is bit of a pain.
Anyhow, I hope to see linux beating windows at some point or stop gaming all together and settle on a game for years, then I could fully switch to linux :)
Linux is already beating Windows in terms of performance in select games. The majority of Windows games are faster due to Linux needing to use a compatibility layer. However despite that there's evidence of Linux outperforming Windows, despite the translation layers.

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyAny idea when they're going to update the "white list"?

protondb has a pretty long list of my games with a "Gold+" or "Platinum" rating, yet the "white list" for Proton hasn't been updated in quite a while...
Pretty sure the answer to that is the same listed in the article:

"At this early stage, the team's focus is still on compatibility and performance, so it might take a little bit."

I'm guessing they stopped whitelisting because there's still so much development going on that potentially white-listed games might suffer regression. Plus they've probably got better things to do for the time being, such as working on compatibility and performance.

Quoting: PatolaHow do you even know, after having bought a game, if it was counted as a Windows or Linux sale?
You can't know unfortunately. Only the developer will see that data. That's why this was discovered, because the user was friends with the dev and was able to cross-check the data.

D9VK developer is working on allowing DXVK to help Linux ports for Direct3D to Vulkan

Very interesting! Is there likely to be a performance hit due to the DX11->Vulkan translation or is it going to be more native performance?

I'm not gay, but I just wanna say that I love you and Philip <3, the work that you guys have done is monumentally game changing for the future of Linux (pun intended):D
You know, you REALLY don't need to prefix that by clarifying your sexual preference.

But yes, Philip and Joshua, we <3 you both very much. Sooooooooo much fun is being had because of your combined work (and of course Wine and Codeweavers and Valve, and all the open source GPU drive developers, and all the Linux kernel developers we love you too)

Quoting: drmothIs this the last episode? I've been waiting for playing them all.
Nope, as AFAIK they want the story to have 5 episodes, given that they were MEANT to release episode 3 like a year ago, you might be waiting a while. (they decided to work on doing the redux versions of episode 1 and 2 instead since many people had a lot of complaints about them, and they want the game to be the best it can be)
Ok thanks for the info. I don't mind waiting, I can always play the sandbox in the meantime. Actually happy to hear there's a redux version plannned...developers show their best work in these "ultimate/redux/defititive edition" versions. They often have to get the game out in order to get some income, but the game is rarely in its best shape on release. As you might tell, I almost NEVER buy games on release, I wait till they mature. Looking at you TRINE 1 ;)

Quoting: TheRiddickso this game is built on opengl for Linux?
It's a Unity game, using the OpenGL renderer. Developers really need to start transitioning to the Unity Vulkan renderer, it'll run so much better.
