The Itch Games Store Are Working On An Open Source Client
29 Dec 2014 at 11:15 pm UTC

Should be at least a good showcase for what an open source Qt client can do on Linux - especially for Desura and GOG. (Desura's client is so buggy it's barely usable TAT)

Natural Selection 2 FPS Has A Major Update, Fixes Major Linux Crash Bug
28 Dec 2014 at 10:52 am UTC

This means I can try it again~! =D

EDIT: LOL-NOPE.jpg Same problem as Serez, as soon as I finish the Loading Screen I crash. Turns out I had to validate game files (again). Will try if I can finally get through the tutorial (I couldn't get past spawning as a Marine before, then I couldn't get past spawning as an Alien - all the while avoiding the pistol or shotgun as firing them would crash me).

Whats Next In Graphics APIs

Quoting: page 6OpenGL 4.4 is a superset of DX11
- well I never knew that.

The benefits on p.12 might mean that AMD/ATI will have more competitive drivers for OpenGL Next. =)

You can see some cool WebGL stuff at http://robertsspaceindustries.com/ [External Link], especially the ship models in the "Holo Viewer" on certain ships that have their models released - click a ship's detail page from https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ship-specs [External Link]

Yay for unprecedented level of participation from game engine ISVs! =)
Ooo OpenCL for Embedded and Safety-Critical applications on Roadmap (p.17)
And apparently a lot of my goto software use OpenCL: VLC, X264, FFMPEG, Handbrake, GIMP, ImageMagick, IrfanView

Lol, that "Matrix" representation of Data on p.26
Interesting slide on p.31,33 - OpenCV and OpenVX complementary.

p.36 - interesting slide showing how Khronos' APIs work together in an Augmented Reality environment! =)

Massive Starbound Update Coming Soon, New Huge Trailer
20 Dec 2014 at 4:58 am UTC

I was looking at this game but got put off by the bad steam reviews about missing content and devs not regularly updating it much - lack of regular updates and bad dev communication are big warning signs in my book, especially for EarlyAccess games. This has given me more confidence, but I'll need to see evidence of better and improved gameplay and a sale before I'll consider buying again ...
Also, I haven't even done 80% of the things in Terraria yet, so probably won't even want to spend too much time in this. (Hence only getting it on sale).

Welcome To The Re-launched GamingOnLinux!

Just when I started to like and get used to the old layout ... I need to zoom out in this layout, since I have an antique 4:3 1280x1024 monitor and this website has very big elements. Looks good after zooming out! =)

So pet peeve with the comments - I really don't like having to reload the entire webpage to change the comment page - any way around that or a "all comments in 1 page" button?

Also agreed about the text at the top next to the logo - want to see GoL =)

Hopefully see some of you in-game! =D

Civilization: Beyond Earth Released For Linux, On Sale & You Can Win Some Keys

Aspyr's so cool with their engagement and communication with our Linux community, love 'em! I even bought borderlands 2 on their website, when I rarely buy games in the ~$20+ level!
You also know I love GoL because of the great coverage and community ;P
