It Seems AMD May Still Bring The Mantle Graphics API To Linux
18 Jun 2014 at 7:01 pm UTC

^Yeah, that's the flipside to a low-level API, if they don't have high-level functions too. But then developers have been asking for the low-level access so they could optimize. You could do that in OGL currently, even if some people think it's a mess right now =P They should just improve OGL with a 'redesign' in 5.x and retain legacy (2.x, 3.x, 4.x) compatibility.

Civ V Steam Giveaway!
17 Jun 2014 at 5:36 pm UTC

Yay for giveaway!
I was going to buy the CE but then I realised it was regionally priced a lot higher than in the US (like 30%) and it wouldn't allow me to checkout with an Australian payment method. Boo for regionally priced =(

Paranautical Activity FPS Big New Release, Comes With Issues
4 Jun 2014 at 2:27 am UTC

Haha, launcher does gozilla on me but I can now move it up. I'm updated to 1.8 (verified steam game cache) but I'm still experiencing the mouse moving up bug as I reported here http://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/screen-dot-lockcursor-under-linux-breaks-input-dot-getaxis [External Link] hopefully it'll work properly. Hopefully they get Unity4.5 and I can test if they fixed it.

Didn't read through all the pages but you might want to tell people in your article that a simple filter rule line like:

Will white-list a site. I put the rule under the group "support websites with ads". I won't disable ABP because some websites have the horriblest ads =P

Unity3D Releases Unity 4.5 & With It Comes Major Linux Fixes
31 May 2014 at 3:53 am UTC

I just commented on my experience with GoI (and PA) at http://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/screen-dot-lockcursor-under-linux-breaks-input-dot-getaxis [External Link]
I hope this update REALLY fixes the Unity mouse looking up thing, especially seeing as it says Linux: Fixed "jump" when initially locking mouse cursor. But my problem is persistent and not a "jump". (See the issue tracker link for more details).

I'd like to play Rust but maybe when it's a bit cheaper (althought it looks like CT uniformed players in bases going out and killing cavemen) =P

Youtube Are Being Stupid On Video Monetization Yet Again
31 May 2014 at 3:21 am UTC

Actually, I think that was an example, and devs saying "anyone can monetize videos of our games" or "we have no problem with you[plural] monetizing videos of our game" should be OK.
You just need to find that blogpost they said it in .. =D

Why We Shouldn't Accept Bad Linux Ports
26 May 2014 at 1:07 am UTC

Quoting: fedsoAccording to jaycee1980 from the Steam forum: "Actually, we've had plenty of help and feedback from Valve...". So it would seems Valve does consider eON a valid solution.
Valve would definitely help VP or CDPR with porting their game to Linux because they're pushing their SteamOS. If you bought a SteamBox, fired up Witcher 2 and instantly crashed, how crappy and damaging to Valve/SteamOS/Linux would that be?
That doesn't mean Valve endorses eON or the implementation of eON for The Witcher 2. Because ultimately CDPR had the power to chose to go with VP and eON.

With toolkit not being the culprit - yeah, VP could have had eON perfected and screwed up big time with their implementation with eON on Witcher 2, but you don't have their source code so you don't know if eON is perfect or not; they might cause the usage of high-resource OGL calls when low-resource ones would suffice. With the apparent fails of their previous Mac OS X ports, either their toolkit or their implementing devs aren't up to par, or both. So you can't say for certain it's not eON/the toolkit, especially without a test case of eON running perfectly on Linux (as pointed out by Liam).

Edit: The assumption here was that you knew many players had reported Witcher 2 working better in WINE than through the eON wrapper. http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/why-we-shouldnt-accept-bad-linux-ports.3765/page=6#r17675

Dota2's tournament prize fund has hit nearly 7 million dollars
26 May 2014 at 12:36 am UTC

I play on Linux, and while it's gotten better than the WINE version, it's still buggy and lags at times (like when Spectre ulti's, anyone else on Linux get that?).
This means Valve has already earnt ~18 million from 2014 Compendiums alone ... go Valve =P

I suck at playing, but would rather play than watch (with anything, sport, games, etc.).
However, e-sports is fun to watch, just like sports, because you're watching the best players of their respective disciplines be it football or Dota 2. Tbh though, I think Tribes (1 and 2) is a lot more fun to watch than MOBAs like Dota. Those intense e-grabs and caps!

Edit: Now if CIG at Star Citizen uses this model for Arena Commander every year and there was a good team/player base ...
