GOL Game Jam Has Entered Rating Phase
28 Oct 2015 at 1:13 am UTC

It would be nice if we had more time (like 2 weeks) to review the games.
Gets more reviews as people need to"
1) learn about the availability of rating the games now
2) find time to play the game
3) then rate them.

Great to see so many entries, I'll leave my comments and ratings on the games themselves. Don't worry if my ratings are lower, they'll be across the board (I usually never give perfect ratings unless I'm on ebay lol).

The Ubuntu Guys Have Already Worked Out A More Official PPA For Nvidia Driver Updates

What's the difference between this one and xorg edgers?
(The version names even have edgers on them)
I use xorg edgers atm.

HTC Vive Plans Linux/SteamOS Support For Day 1

I don't think it's a fad, although I think it needs to be well made to work well. I've only tried Oculus DK1 though, and Google Cardboard (lol).
DK1 was too pixelated, so I'll definitely try before buying, but I'm excited about the Vive. (especially with Lighthouse!)

Ubuntu Developers Looking To Simplify Getting Latest Nvidia Graphics Drivers

I've been using xorg-edgers, it's been great for me. However, I guess it's too experimental for mainstream and has the extra work of adding a PPA.

SMACH Zero, A SteamOS Handheld Official Specifications Revealed

Quoting: MGOidI don't have faith in it. As someone who already plays in a low powered device, I can say for sure that even for indie games it is too low powered, even if it was using Windows with the Catalyst driver in DirectX games.
...
If their explicit intent is to use it as a device for streaming from a real game computer, it will work. But the battery still will be a concern, since even cheap tablets with ARM CPUs can't pass a few hours without recharge.
I don't know what the perf of the graphics chip is like but I think it will be able to play a lot of games with low graphics settings.
Battery concern is legit though - probably won't manage more than 4 hours at best with CPU/GPU at 100% even if they slapped a 4Ah battery across (inside) the whole device.

There are definitely heaps of games in my game libraries that don't require my gaming PC's muscle so it'd be nice to play on the go - although personally I've rarely played much on the go and just read usually (the last gaming dedicated device I had was a gameboy brick haha, not including my android phone and tabs running GBA/PS1/PSP/NDS emulators that I rarely use). Would personally not get this and go for a higher end Vulkan graphics card in the future =P

Quoting: Orkultus"Steam machines are too slow for the Vive VR anyway"

That right there makes this sound like either a microsoft fan boy trolling Linux people, or it's just another stupid rumor.
Exactly, my machine is plenty fast enough to run Windows as well as Linux, the fact it runs Linux better than Windows is beside the point.
You don't own a Steam Machine. You own a PC running Linux.
That's basically what a Steam Machine is =P
But honestly, any "manufacturer" can cobble together a high end PC (SLI Titans?), label it as a Steam Machine, install SteamOS on it and sell it.

Yeah, I too personally think VR should be a good experience, and hope it's no fad. DK1 pixels were horrible though, would be nice to try consumer version and the Vive to see if I can see the pixel boundary lines, before deciding if I wanna get it.
