Trigon: Space Story is a fresh FTL-like space strategy game out now

I streamed this for a bit and ultimately I found it a bit disappointing. The gameplay is right from FTL and the graphics are nice, but it didn't have interesting worldbuilding, the random events were not as fun or as well written, and I didn't find that it added much over FTL mechanically.

Kaiju Wars seems like Into the Breach but it's much more and it's out now

love the visual style! and I had a lot of fun with into the breach, so thanks for putting this on my radar.

Terraformers, a relaxed game about turning the Red Planet green, out now

Seen this game a lot on Twitch lately, but had no idea what was going on. Enjoyed the writeup, thanks. Just me or are there a lot of Mars games coming out lately? Red Planet Farming and Planet Crafter come to mind.

EDIT: Red Planet farming actually came out in 2018, which also saw the release of Terraforming Mars (no relation to Terraformers). Maybe 2018 was the true Mars gaming year.

Quoting: drjomsGotta say, this game is AWFUL so far.
Downloaded, compiled.
No basic way to enable any graphics.
Without it looks like ass. I am sorry, it's 2022. I loved Dungeons of dredmore, look it up. Great rogulike.
Git page has good chunks of links not working.
Stay away if you value your sanity.
sorry you had a bad time with the setup :( I should have mentioned that I use the stable release you can download here [External Link] (0.F) and didn't compile it myself. The release had the graphics already enabled. If you ever want to give it another shot, stop by the discord they're really helpful there.

PS: I share your love of Dredmor :D

Quoting: anewsonPicked it up after reading this, so far enjoying it a lot. The humour is definitely an improvement over the Dungeons series, and does a much better job than Dungeons at walking the line between serious and jokey as the original franchise did. I enjoyed Dungeons 2 and 3, but so far I'm actually enjoying WFTO more.
Haven't played either of them for long time. War for the Overworld does have the original Dungeon Keeper narrator though, Richard Ridings. I remember that the writing has darker tone. Dungeons has Kevan Brighting who is known for other very sarcastic game: Stanley Parable.

Dungeons 2 has bit more over the top tone (this might also apply to the other games in the series). It's relying quite heavily on fantasy cliches to a point where it feels bit amateurish.

Difficulty curve is bit less classic (i.e. difficult) in Dungeons 2. Finishing the last levels of War for the Overworld felt like quite big accomplishment. I tried them so many times before figuring out some tactic that actually worked. Dungeons 2 increases the difficulty quite lot in optional levels, but not so much before that.
Completely agree with the difficulty assessment... I failed the 5th mission in WFTO on my first attempt and could barely believe it. The game is much faster paced, and leans closer to traditional RTS gameplay (eg, APM helps a lot) than other genre titles.

I freaking LOVE this game, I used to play it to fall asleep. If you like relaxed introspective experiences, this is the one for you.

Fans of this might also check out The Geography, which is not interactive, but has similar deep chill vibes. The Geography was in the Ukraine bundle on itch, if you bought that.

good lord I have Iris Xe on 12th gen i7 and I'd be happy to see HALF those framerates they're claiming for my hardware for most of those games... granted I'm on linux but surely that doesn't explain such a difference

Quoting: drjomsHonestly, what do you expect in SUPERULTRA competitive game where most games are random people together?
yeah; I guess I'm not surprised about why things are the way they are, but I am surprised that we haven't found a way to make things better. I remember a time when cabbies could be pretty horrible to their rides (and vice versa). Amazing what a tiny amount of accountability did to those one-shot random stranger interactions.

Maybe as you say, the competitiveness of the game (and playerbase demographics?) make the problem insurmountable, but I'm not convinced at the moment.
