Quoting: peta77But those, that started and still care about games only, aren't always so Linux friendly. They mainly care about platforms with high market share and consider others as irrelevant / uncapable.I wrote a mail to Gamestar back then when we were excited about Steam Machines. They published it and answered that they consider it and will take a look if the concept will lift off. No stupid decision to be honest, it's all still too niche...

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThat's actually a pretty solid article. It's like the person writing it had some idea what they were talking about. What a weird feeling. Is this normal in German IT news?I guess we've got our share of bad writers, but the reason they survived to become the biggest (shrinking the least) is quality.

Should we take for granted that these tests have been done on SteamOS 3.0?
If so, what major breakthrough have they been able to achieve, with Proton, that they didn't share with us, yet? If not, what a major let down!

Quoting: GuestOk, I missunderstood you than. Yes, they could if they want (ed) to.Quoting: EikeI didn't say that.Quoting: GuestThis whole thing is so fake, it's not like making/compiling drivers for other cpu architectures is anything new. On the contrary, this should be the bare minimum for all the arches out there. I wonder whats the profit angle on this one.Making drivers for other architectures is a piece of cake?

Quoting: denyasisAre people here upset that proton is possibly reducing the number of native ports or are you more update that proton/wine is possibly creating a platform independent target for devs to aim at where the standard is Windows?I don't think you can really separate this. The problem with not having native ports is that the standard for the others (running on Proton) is Windows. You're literally running .exe files on Linux. With Unity or Godot or the like, you get Linux binaries.
