Quoting: NezchanI'm assuming the title is a pun on the Japanese word "tampopo", which means "dandelion". The little dudes aren't anything like dandelions, but at least it's a flower word.
Reminds me of the classic movie "Tampopo" which was a Japanese movie all about food. There's kind of a core plotline about this woman named Tampopo running a ramen shop with kind of crappy ramen, who helps this trucker guy out and in return he starts doing this quest with her to get her ramen up to spec, seeking out great broth recipes and stuff. But it also has all these weird hilarious vignettes, like these homeless bums who live behind classy-restaurant row and eat all the best food and are connoisseurs, or these girls taking etiquette lessons from this older woman who has taken them to an Italian restaurant to learn how to properly eat spaghetti, and she's doing the whole formal thing with winding it on the spoon and telling them Americans will be shocked and dismayed by their manners if they don't eat it like this . . . and is interrupted by the slurping sound of an American a few tables over vacuuming their spaghetti, at which point all the girls start doing it and actually having fun eating their spaghetti . . . It's a great movie, tons of good bits.
I've seen it actually, way back. And that's where I learned that particular bit of trivia.

It's certainly a far cry from The Zone in Roadside Picnic, where every single step has the potential to be deadly. Or much worse.

Roll the dice to attack enemies in Dice & Fold, try the demo now

Gave it a try earlier, and it's okay mechanically, but other than the card art I'm not feeling that much character shining through to the game as a whole.

Also there doesn't feel like a lot of weight to getting hit or "folding" enemies. Seems to me there should be more impact.

I'll give it a try again tomorrow, see if I get more out of it.

VoxeLibre (formerly MineClone2) v0.87 released moving away from Minecraft

I agree that the name isn't exactly inspiring, nor does it roll off the tongue easily. But I do like the idea of taking a different direction. Not only to ward off potential lawsuits, but also to stop following so closely in the increasingly gimmicky footsteps of Minecraft itself.

I would like to see them emulate waterlogged blocks, though. Building ponds and rivers would be so much more pleasant.

I'm a little concerned about "a vast, procedurally generated world that doesn't hold your hand" because the former often means "shallow worldbuilding" and the latter "no effort to do signposting".

Like much as I love Caves of Qud, the procedurally generated towns are just remixes of each other without a lot of depth, so there's no point talking to anyone besides the questgiver and maybe a merchant. It's the designed locations like Grit Gate that are worth looking into. As to the latter, I'm fine with not having overlays that tell you exactly where to go to accomplish every little thing, but it's easy to go overboard and give *no* direction, which can be very frustrating.

I hope it doesn't take either of those too far, but having them as up-front selling points does make me concerned.

Machinka: Museum looks like exactly the sort of thing I'd like. Sold, for zero bucks!

Might as well grab Endless Legend too, I was interested in that once upon a time.

Caves of Qud gets a huge new Beta released with the big UI redesign

Much as I enjoy the game (although it's a little newbie-hostile even now), I think I'll skip the beta and wait for the changes to hit the main branch.  I'm here to play, not to playtest.

As to content, it's a pretty big game overall. Although outside of the primary quest there aren't all that many smaller stories to pursue, at least in the earlier parts of the game. I do recommend roleplay mode if you're going for the story and not just trying out a variety of cool builds though. Otherwise go for the dailies to get the hang of it, where you get prebuilt characters that you see how far you can get with. I've reached

Quoting: NezchanIt looks interesting, but the sound effects seem awfully harsh to my ears. I can't help but feel like the running sound and NPC "voices" would annoy me greatly after a while.

Maybe not even that long a while.
Don't most games have volume options on that kind of stuff?
It's not the volume, it's the repetition of the same, harsh sounds. I don't think playing the game with sound turned off is a good solution for that.
