Quoting: ShaoluThanks for the wall of text, captain obvious. ;) But this isn't what I was arguing against, and I certainly wasn't speaking of a hypothetical popular SteamOS of days to come. I was simply stating my firm belief that Linux-exclusive games aren't the right way to market Linux as a gaming OS today, and also protesting Kyrottimus's use of the word "force" I guess. Obviously it often makes financial sense to target the largest or otherwise most profitable segment of the market and any work towards additional platforms will yield smaller returns. True, but beside the point.Quoting: tuubi[...]Quoting: GuestSo really, it would force people out of their comfort zone (really, windows is about as comfortable as shirt made out of tree bark) to try something new.I don't get this. How do exclusives force anyone to do anything at all? If a game isn't available on my OS, I shrug and move on. I certainly do not feel compelled to install Windows or buy a Console just so I can play them. Exclusives are bad, full stop. Besides, if you love Linux for the freedom it affords you, why do you feel the need to force it down someone's throat?
In short: Exclusives aren't necessarily a bad thing. They're just a fact of life.

Anyway, I'd argue that we do indeed need entertainment, but no single game is important enough to force us into anything, and even if it was, forcing people to try Linux is not the right way to go about it.

Quoting: GuestObviously, there is no need for a game, or an OS, or computers for that matter. If we wanted to be literal about everything, we could all revert to a paleo-diet and live in a simple agrarian society as that would meet our "needs" sufficiently. That's not being literal, that's being a wise-ass. ;)

Quoting: mulletdeathNice to see it might reach some of its cooler stretch goals; the campaign had seemed to slow down there for a while.Yeah. They already hit the animator goal, which is nice. Too bad the Bonus Dreamworlds goal is out of reach. The rest of them are less interesting to me, but I can imagine some of you would shit your pants for VR, while others could use the localization. But what really tickles me pink is seeing consoles as the last, impossible stretch goals. :)

Well that was awfully nice of them to say. Go on Liam, give yourself a pat as well, preferably followed by a celebratory swig of rum. You (and your awesome contributors) really deserve to be proud at times like these. You might not have Valve's budget, but you really do an awful lot for Linux gaming.
Let's hope the game turns out as good as I hope it will.

We'd still have 32-bit Linux without 32-bit install media for new Ubuntu releases. Even current LTS releases of Ubuntu will be supported for a few years, if other distros are not an option.

I can see this being an enjoyable casual time-waster and stress-reliever, assuming decent gamepad controls. Although the main quest deadlines sound a bit forced. Might just as well vote for it, but won't buy until I see some positive reviews.
AMD will be hosting a reddit 'ask me anything' and giving away 14 RX 480 graphics cards

Quoting: XaeroVincentMy guess is that the RX 480 will perform like a GTX 970 on Windows and a GTX 960 on Linux.A ~200 USD AMD gpu on par with a similarly priced GTX 960 on Linux? That would mean they'd be pretty close in price/performance. A big Windows/Linux performance gap would be regrettable, but basically irrelevant.

Quoting: liamdaweFor me though, if the developer doesn't give their game away for free and expects payment (like 99% of games) and you chuck a copy to a friend, you're doing something illegal (in most countries I think?) and unethical (because it shits on said developer).I agree with you, and I don't take part in or advocate piracy. But that doesn't mean it's all black and white, and that all crime is equal. Most of us live in democratic countries though, and if and when we disagree with our laws, the right thing to do is to try to get them changed, not to break them. Activism is okay and even desirable, illegal or antisocial behaviour less so.
