Quoting: Liam DaweI think it's more that just saying it's a "Proprietary engine" by itself isn't really a selling point, it doesn't really explain anything and to most people it won't really mean anything.

And no, no one expects games or the game engine to be open source at all.
Yeah, I guess it's true that to most people it wouldn't mean anything, but to other gamedev nerds like me it will :)
We might reword it to "Custom engine", and move it to a different section of the description to make it clearer.
...
May I suggest the term "in-house engine"?

That would properly convey that you made this "engine" thingy yourself (with the implication that many others don't), even to the most clueless of clueless. Custom could still be a modified third party engine, after all.

As for the play-test, just obtained access and I may even find the time tonight to take a peek ^_^
+1 to in-house, that's the right term!
"Bespoke engine" sounds fancier!

Good luck with the game @mitridas! It looks fun. Thanks for supporting Linux.

As opposed to US keyboards that have a wide enter key that takes up the space of two keys? It's simply a different standard layout.

Well to be fair they also got invaded and at least on of their graphic designers was KIA.

Regarding the game itself it is a far less open world than people claim. Yes it's not as linear as the previous instalments, but it is only open per local map.
I wasn't aware Cyprus got invaded? When did the Turks invade? I don't see it on the news
Cyprus? 4A Games is based in Ukraine and Malta. One of those got invaded a while back.
Sorry Malta, yes. Not Cyprus. Their headquarters are in Malta as are their main offices. They have been there for a long time prior to the war. They haven't been a "Ukrainian" company for ages.
Whether you consider the company Ukrainian or not is irrelevant. The people running the company are mostly Ukrainian and they've got Ukrainian employees. The war obviously affects them and their work. They've said as much, and I don't see why you'd assume otherwise.

They did move their headquarters to Malta in 2014, but they've still got an office/studio in Ukraine, and I suppose friends and family as well.

PS: Incidentally, I spent a month in Malta in 2014 and enjoyed my stay. Can't fault 4A Games on their choice of home base.

Quoting: mborseIs it native on Linux? The article has a "Native Linux" tag. Is it native or Proton?
The original Dead Island and Riptide have native ports, DI2 does not. I guess the tag is for the Riptide giveaway.

The Talos Principle is one of the best first person puzzlers ever made. Definitely worth playing. And the Road to Gehenna DLC is excellent.

Was actually VP :P
WHAT!!! How could I make such a mistake
Gonna request your Linux gamer card back
What does VP mean in this context?
It's Virtual Programming. They're a Mac game publisher / porter who ported some high profile games to Linux as well [External Link]. The ports weren't perfect, but I bought and enjoyed most of them anyway.

Looks great. The "avoid combat - embrace exploration" bit looks like an interesting departure from the metroidvania template of their previous games.

Steam Remote Play gets VA-API DRM hardware decoding on Linux

Quoting: TactikalKittyCan anyone explain what this means or does:
Enable VA-API DRM hardware decoding on Linux
While the Remote Play client has supported VA-API video acceleration for a good while, this is about making use of it in DRM mode (Direct Rendering Manager, not Digital Rights Management) instead of relying on the older X11 interface. Seems like a necessary step towards better native Wayland support.
Aside from future Wayland support, does it provide any visual or performance improvements?
I don't know, but I doubt it. The video is decoded just the same, only rendering directly to a DRM device instead of going through X11. And X11 doesn't really add much overhead here.
