Expect more wars in the coming decade. It will get worse
There's never been a decade without wars. We humans are a miserably warlike bunch. But I guess "worse" is when it affects us personally.

Unless the game got fixed since Samsai streamed the Linux release a week ago, prepare for some jank. Models glitching out etc. You can find the VOD here [External Link] if you want to see for yourself.

Unity CEO John Riccitiello is leaving 'effective immediately'

I'd say the problem here is specifically how a corporation is incentivized to behave in a typical capitalist economy. It would be naive to blame each ghoul of a corporate CEO individually while ignoring the underlying reasons for their ghoulish actions.

I'm not much of a revolutionary. The solution isn't likely to be that we simply scrap the system and try something else. It would be more logical to honestly acknowledge these problems and take steps to remedy the worst of them using controls and methods that have been shown to work. Active (and adaptive) regulation and mixed ownership models come to mind as examples.

Quoting: 14It has gotten very tiring for all the comments to be about politics here, so I'm glad to see this comment that does not make me feel defensive for the place I was born.
First of all, I think this is economics, not politics.
I agree with everything else you said, but economics is political. That's why large corporations, purely "economic" entities, spend so much money lobbying/bribing/etc politicians. Politics is about people having different interests and deciding whose interests will be served how hard--and economics is a really big factor in whose interests get served.
That's fair.

First of all, I think this is economics, not politics. And second: You were born in the magical kingdom of Capitalism?

To be less sarcastic: What do you expect comments on an article like this to be about? Something completely unrelated?

I don't understand why you'd feel defensive either. I'm sure most of us live in capitalist economies.

Retro shooter DUSK is getting a full free HD revamp

The good news is that it will be entirely optional as the HD content will be available via the Steam Workshop as free downloads... Find DUSK on Humble Store, GOG.com and Steam.
I wonder how they'll approach putting the new content on GOG, or if they will?
Just like any other optional DLC you can find on GOG, I presume. Just download the DLC and install on top of the base game. Or use a client that handles this for you.

Quoting: tuubiThe talky and sneaky options are a refreshing change of pace for the genre. If the story is decent, I'm definitely interested. If Linux support comes through that is.
Very much intending to support Linux! Whether that is confirming the game works well under Proton or providing a fully native client remains to be decided, but I exclusively run Linux myself so the game by definition needs to run well under it :)
Nice! Personally I'm hoping for native simply because that's how I keep my wishlist to a reasonable size, but either way is definitely better than no Linux support at all.

Quoting: tuubiIf you still want to continue this conversation, please try to keep a lid on the patronising tone. This is about business ethics and a corporation's responsibility towards their employees and clients. Not about a CEO's feelings or other such nonsense.
Ethics and responsibility play along with expectations from everyone -- employees and investors. When expectations are accurate, emotions follow. You would not continue this thread without some level of emotional attachment, so I don't understand this odd request. Humans can't avoid emotions, and it affects our short-term judgement and decision making.
I'm saying that feelings aren't the topic of this discussion. Societal responsibility isn't about feelings. Business ethics isn't about feelings. A CEO doesn't make important business decisions based on how they feel. A certain level of professional detachment is expected of them. Of course we all have feelings and they contribute to everything we do, but that's neither here nor there.

Nobody expects Epic's CEO to actually love all of his employees. I don't understand why you'd deem us unserious enough to even entertain that thought. And I'm not against these sorts of corporate shenanigans just because they make me angry or sad. I'm not a child. I'm against them because they're not good for the society or the economy in the long run. That means every one of us as participants in that society. And as consumers and employees in the economy.

Quoting: 14That said, I don't have anything else to add. It is clear you are passionate on your point of view and will continue an us versus them bitterness.
I'm not bitter at all, nor am I against businesses or business owners in general. I suppose I just happen to disagree with you on the standard we should hold them to.

I am sorry if I come off as unnecessarily blunt or confrontational. That's not my intention. Social skills, what are they and where can I buy some?
