Proton Hotfix from Valve gets The Witcher 3 next-gen DX12 working on Steam Deck

Proton Hotfix from Valve doesn't get it working for me (PC, not Steam Deck). It still crashes out to handler dialog at the last moment before the game spawns, for me. Not only that, Proton Hotfix renamed the wine pfx out of the way and I had to go fishing for my game data.
I'm going back to my upstream wine based proton-tkg (proton_tkg_7.22.some.git.spaghetti) where at least the game launcher works ("REDlauncher"... it looks like a thin version of the Galaxy client or something) and I can choose between DirectX 12 and DirectX 11. It does not appear with any of the valve wine based protons (including my proton-tkg with valve bleeding edge) for whatever reason (aborts and default game exe runs?)
The DirectX 11 version seems to be a separate build and it runs OK. I do see that d3d11on12.dll in the bin\x64_dx12 directory but that's not being used for the DirectX 11 build. I didn't think so, but I renamed the x64_dx12 directory right out of the way to see and it did not affect the DirectX 11 build of the game at all.
steam/steamapps/common/The Witcher 3/bin/x64 <---- DirectX 11 build
steam/steamapps/common/The Witcher 3/bin/x64_dx12 <--- DirectX 12 build
I'm sure they used some translation at the source level in the first place to port this to DirectX 12.

I'm interested in that game. For so many years I've read about Joel and Ellie in gaming articles, and it was only available on the Sony Baloney platform.
As for pre-orders, the only time I will pre-order something is if I get access to alpha/beta. Maybe the day before release if there's a pre-order bonus I want. Otherwise I don't trust that the game isn't going to be vapourware or delayed multiple times etc.

Back around 2005'ish, I once had a Nintendo 64 emulator called Mupen64. I downloaded all kinds of ROMs, and didn't really like Nintendo games. (Never have, starting from the days of Donkey Kong)
Wipeout was the only ROM I really liked :-)
As I'm looking at screenshots of this, I'm thinking that I played a similar game. Wipeout... that sounds familiar. Then I remembered the N64 emulator
Sold! :-)

I use a big old clickety clack IBM keyboard from the 80's. It was one of the first PS/2 devices. I got it from an old pharmacy dispensary computer that was going to the dump, an old IBM XT.
You can pry this keyboard from my stiff, dead fingers.

Nintendo goes after SteamGridDB, likely for people doing emulation on Steam Deck

I utterly detest Nintendo. I hate their games (since the 80's), I hate their devices and I hate the way they treat their customers.
No worries about me pirating Nintendo ROMs, not even in spite. (I have no use for anything that comes out of their rectum)

Quoting: whizseSigh, reading comprehension... I spotted "arriving on December 16th" assumed it was the full version and got all excited!I actually made the same mistake at first, and (edited). I meant to convey my interest beyond playing a demo.

It's refreshing to see someone making a game like this with a Single Player campaign these days.
Count me in on December 16 (and hopefully when it's ready for purchase)

Quoting: tuubiCheck out Ice Lakes [External Link]. It supports VR and online multiplayer. No Co-op or microtransactions as far as I can tell, sorry. :wink:I was being snide, but I should have known that someone will have done this lol

The screenshots look nice, though I'm not sure I'd play it. However, sometimes it's the outing that counts for me. Similarly, this game looks like I could enjoy getting to the fishing spots.
Somebody should make an ice fishing game... now that would be something exciting. I always loved going ice fishing, but never caught any fish, because by the time we got the hole cut big enough to put the boat in, it was time to go home! :-)
An ice fishing VR game, that's the ticket. Put on VR headgear and sit around the hole and wait for fish! Co-op multiplayer addon with in-game microtransactions. They could even have a mobile version with that cardboard cutout VR lol

You can also just symlink or name it the same as the current default version (latest) in ~/.local/share/lutris/runtime. That's how I do it, and I remove write permissions from mine so lutris can't ever overwrite my build with runtime updates.
I just removed v1.10.3 (it was my build anyway) and symlinked it to my v2.0 that I dropped in.
v1.10.3 -> v2.0
Then, my dxvk version field in Runner Options still says v1.10.3 and it loads the one I want it to.
I find that easier than trying to enter bogus info in that dxvk_versions.json file to get it to show up in the drop list. I didn't realize you could just type the version (directory name) in that field lol
That took care of Lutris last night, but I really wanted this for Steam where I play more shader heavy DirectX 11 games. So I fixed up a custom build of Proton-GE, and updated the dxvk sources (to the v2.0 tag) within it. The only proton patch that wouldn't apply was dxvk_async and since I don't use that, I just omitted it instead of trying to fix it. (It might just be a matter of rebasing it but I was too impatient to look at it)
