I loved that too - it's great! Very eye-catching.

Quoting: GuestIn such countries where wages are 600-700usd (in best case scenario) its insane to spend 60 dollars on game.
It's not even like that price gets you the full game anymore - some companies, like Sega, now expect people to pay a lot extra for previously-standard features [External Link].

Never Grave from the Palworld developer looks a lot like Hollow Knight

I'm going to do a... what is it that kids today call it...? A hot take, here: This is what gaming used to be like, and I'm actually happy to see this sort of thing making a comeback to get genres evolving again and keep everyone on their toes. It's certainly better than the morass of grey-and-brown slop that's been the focus for the last couple of decades!

Some oldey-timey examples, since you know I love my pictorial references in cases like this;

This is no different to indies creating games like Freedom Planet, Shovel Knight, Bombing Bastards, and other games inspired by existing properties.

What next, it's not ok to use the term "Metroidvania" anymore because Metroid belongs to Nintendo and Castlevania belongs to Konami?

Ok, so I know what "Nintendo Mode" is, but what's "Lizard Mode"?

Quoting: SeegrasI actually thought about giving it a try on my notebook, but "Intel GPUs not supported".
Aw, I guess that rules out me trying it on my GPD Win Max 2021, too - I have the Intel version. That's a pity!

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAnd I mean, something being a transparent ripoff doesn't necessarily make it bad. I quite enjoyed The Sword of Shannara even though it was clear to me from the start of reading it that it was a transparent and inferior ripoff of Lord of the Rings.
Of course! It's how genres are built, at the end of the day. And sometimes, all you want is a competent effort at more of the same - that's why I always quite liked Zool [External Link], for example.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyGotta say, when I first saw a piece of an episode of Digimon on TV my first thought was "Whoa, now there's a transparent ripoff of Pokemon!"
Not that I cared, or thought about whether it was actionable or anything, but that was what instantly came to mind.
I remember thinking the same thing when the Digimon virtual pet keychains first came along (they pre-dated the show by a couple of years, and had little to do with it except for some of the monsters and their evolutionary paths). But with that original context, it was also a lot clearer that they were taking the monster-collecting idea into a raising-focussed direction instead.

They still make them, too. I've got one of the modern ones on my desk at the moment, and it can even connect to the classic one I have, as well.

Quoting: redneckdrowFighting Foodons (Am I the only one who remembers this show?)
I'm not familiar with it, but having looked it up, it sounds somewhat familiar, so I must've heard of it somewhere along the line. Sounds like an amusing spin on the idea, honestly!

Quoting: redneckdrowEdit: Forgot the original three Makai Toushi Saga (AKA The Final Fantasy Legend) games.
And the Bomberman Max titles. I'm playing through the first one right now - it was already on my list, but then the whole Palworld thing bumped it up to the top.

There's also Robotrek, and fellow GOL'er Nasterium pointed out to me the other day that Wizardry IV also counts as one of the originators of the genre.

Quoting: BelaptirI've been cut out from a chat group because I decided I wasn't having it anymore from Nintendo with all they've been doing. Apparently for some cultists, disagree with Nintendo and treat them like a company and not like a friend is a sin or something. Not that I care tho.
Ugh, tell me about it - I know EXACTLY what you mean!

Quoting: PhiladelphusThere appears to be some misinformation doing the rounds about this.
So I see! Looks like misinformation built on misinformation, haha.

Anyhow, I'll be the first to call the Palworld devs out if they're in the wrong, as long as there's actual concrete proof verified by multiple sources (I've got no horse in the race here - I don't enjoy Pokemon and Palworld isn't my sort of game either!). As it is right now though, there's this truly bizarre witch-hunt mob out to defend Nintendo's honour, teamed up with Western devs and press who are openly unhappy that something they didn't get behind is seeing success, and it's honestly one of the strangest things I've ever seen.

Y'know, now that I've thought about it some more, they leveraged the likes of GOL to get free promotion for something that they might never have intended to launch in the way it was first promoted. You don't open pre-orders and then suddenly change the spec unplanned. That's really not cool.
