Tomb Raider I-III Remastered heads to Steam from Aspyr
14 Sep 2023 at 6:04 pm UTC

Quoting: Liam DaweI would rather cover something I'm interested in myself, and potentially a whole bunch of others, than not cover it just because it doesn't have Native :)
Oh, I never meant (or, indeed, said) native - you know my views on Proton from other threads, it's absolutely essential for what I do.

I had a game release just yesterday that was spot-on with Proton from the first minute of release (and the ensuing non-stop 9.5 hour first play-session...), which was and is an absolute joy. But I'm waiting on it actually getting an official Steam Deck status before I submit anything to you guys, in that case - it's not quite as big of a title (at least these days) as the likes of Tomb Raider.

Valve puts the Steam Deck and Dock on sale again, get up to 20% off

The Steam Deck is absolutely fantastic hardware. I got mine recently and it's already become my main gaming-PC. I truly put it through its paces for the first time yesterday; I had a free day and I put in a non-stop 9.5 hour session with the newly-released Super Bomberman R 2, and there was never the slightest hint of discomfort, hand-cramp, or eye-strain - that's the mark of a well-designed handheld, right there.

At this price it's an even better deal!

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered heads to Steam from Aspyr

I just heard about this, but didn't expect to see it posted on GOL today due to no word yet about Proton support or Steam Deck Verified/Playable status!

It's a bit uncanny, too, because I recently felt like revisiting the original Tomb Raider! (I could take or leave 2 and 3, personally - they put in too much combat that didn't play well for controls intended primarily for exploration. But it's still good that they're there!)

Great news, this one, and I'm hopeful that it will be handled faithfully; Care for the franchise has already been demonstrated with the choice of release-date - February 14th 1968 is the original Lara Croft's birthdate.

Greed trumps common-sense.

Steam goes green as Valve celebrate 20 years

This is good fun, though I think it's safe to say that the default colour-scheme has come a long way over the years, too!

Is anyone else having trouble getting the Steam 20th Points Store page to load right now, by the way? It was coming up blank for me when I tried it just now, both in a browser and in the Steam client.

EDIT: It's working now. Got all of the things.

Happy Birthday to Steam as it turned 20 today

The Steam website is mean and green today, too!

Happy Birthday, Steam!

Fanatical have great bundles live with Deathloop, Skyrim, Metro Exodus and more
12 Sep 2023 at 4:14 pm UTC

Shortly before the BundleFest started, they also added the Retro Rampage Bundle [External Link], which is a pretty decent haul for £3.99. I had my eye on Toki on Steam, which is currently £3.49, so I went for it because the bundle had a couple more titles that I wanted. Great deal!

Toaplan Arcade Shoot 'Em Up Collection Vol.2 definitely delivers

Quoting: GuestI own a real cab, with a real crt with a real chewing-gum stuck on it since decades, and you can put money in it, it works!
AdvMame over an old amd athon takes care of everthing.
I was using real boards rather than a PC - still have a few of them.

Quoting: GuestBy the way, shaders these days really shines; the one in this article is just "meh" and the deck screen resolution is just not enough, but if you try retroarch ones, even on 1080p with a good black level and a decent gamut, you will understand why i'm not powering the real thing anymore.
Oh, I know. But by the standards of a lot of retro collections, especially when played on handhelds (portables are my thing), the one in this article is one of the better ones I've seen.

Toaplan Arcade Shoot 'Em Up Collection Vol.2 definitely delivers

It's great to see more of this, and I do hope that they branch out and cover some of Toaplan's non-shooter content as well - I'm still hoping for Snow Bros. to show up (either the original, or the recent remake Snow Bros. Special), especially now that a remake of Snow Bros. 2 [External Link] has been confirmed for Steam [External Link], with more info due at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.

Also, that CRT filter looks quite good! I'm not usually a fan of those (though I'm forced to use them for some games in the Capcom Arcade Stadium titles, since those don't allow a 1:1 display for CPS1/2 games, and they therefore look awful without adding a filter), but this one looks pretty authentic. (I owned a JAMMA cabinet at one point, so wrong-looking arcade CRT filters bother me a bit. Not an experience I would recommend, by the way - they're noisy things and they take up SO much space.)

Quoting: scaineHardly anyone knows about Slap Fight
I've never played it (I still need to pick up these Toaplan collections ), but we must be some of the few who do know it!
