The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2 Officially Released, It's Awesome!

Quoting: wolfyrionThe trailer looks hilarious and sexy :D
One question,is a must to play the previous versions or are not related with the books of unwritten tales 2?
Not Critter Chronicles, but the BoUT 1 provides a bit of backstory, though BoUT 2 should still be very good on its own. It's not a MUST, it's more of a should. Considering the price right now, I would get the original and play that first.

That's pretty cool! Had no idea there was a boxed version. The UK one does too apparently:

I wonder if for the Linux and OSX versions they just provide a Steam key though....

Editorial: Linux Gaming Will Be Fine Even Without Steam Machines Succeeding

I think the "steam machines are dead" claims stem mostly from a gaming media obsessed with hype, speculation and rumor (and general hysteria about everything). That kind of headline sells, especially when there isn't a whole lot to talk about (I remember most of these stories began to appear in the summer). Completely unfounded really.

Dunno, the PC gaming world tends to disappear up its own bum sometimes and forget there's other people out there. The instant reaction to Steam Machines is "why I have a two £300 graphics cards, what other use could there be for this other than streaming?" forgetting that there's potentially millions of people out there who are just fine with console-level graphics and might want an alternative to PS4/Xbone with more (and cheaper) games on it. Gaming media and "master race" types tend to feed off eachother quite a bit, neither can get it through their thick skulls that Steam Machines isn't targeted at them.

If I was a console gamer still on the 360 or PS3, I would definitely go for the Steam Machine over the next-gen consoles. Even with just the current Linux library, there are still waaaay more games and a much greater variety - those bland big console titles get really boring after a while. If it can draw those types of people in, we would easily have a few million more Linux gamers.

Epic Games Are Throwing Money At Developers

Interesting idea.

I imagine they will choose games which will do well commercially though, or games which will do well commercially with a bit of extra funding, seeing it pay off when the 25% royalty starts coming in. At the same time they aren't going to throw money at huge studios either since they wouldn't need the money, so I assume it's mostly medium-sized studios which will benefit (would be very cool to see a small developer get some funds though).

It's a good incentive to get developers to use their engine, ultimately a win for everyone involved. Just wish the one string attached would be a Linux port :P

FYI, I think Epic are supposed to be one of the companies announcing glNext at the GDC.

Hand Of Fate Out Of Early Access

I'm getting on average 42 fps on my 750 ti with the highest settings (still lower than I would expect from this though). The cards are quite even in performance so you should be getting around the same.

Maybe try newer drivers? I've found updating drivers has made a big change in performance for a few games in the past.

Edit: Probably closer to 30 fps in combat.

A Reminder To Fill Out Our February Survey
19 Feb 2015 at 2:03 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweSounds like a plan, as something automatic like an I.P would be great, and simply telling them they have already done it, and preventing them doing it again would be fab.

Edit > I guess one day I should whip up a quick GOL Survey feature so we don't even need to use outside stuffs. I need to implement our basic poll feature for articles first though I think.
I guess I'll wait on that then, It will be nice to see it integrated at some point and solves a lot of issues while creating new possibilities :). As long as it can produce .csv files then the graph making program Fedso made, it would trump Google Forms.

For now I think I'm going to do the following:

1 - Change the colour of the form (switch between pink and blue because those are the options) every month so it's easier to distinguish between surveys and hopefully prevent some repeats until we have some form of IP logging.

2 - Have the "new survey available" and "survey results" as two separate articles to avoid further confusion. (this also helps me a bit because it means the results don't always have to come out on the 1st and have a bit of flexibility there)

3 - See if sobkas can create a different article image for results to distinguish the two articles even more.

4 - Continue doing this reminder article and hope that the above changes prevent confusion.

An interview with Gallium Nine project developer Axel Davy

Quoting: edmondo6. Oh well, maybe it's easier if you interview everybody. My wish list will never end :-)
+1

Also, it might be cool to have a picture of the person (if one is available) in the article. It's nice to see the names and faces behind free software :)

A Reminder To Fill Out Our February Survey
18 Feb 2015 at 6:19 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweHonestly, i think we need some way to make sure people don't submit duped entries, even if it's simple.

An email is a nice way, or simply i.p logging or anything really that might be the same each time, as we will do reminders (reminders are good).
Google Forms provides the email address option, which I don't mind doing if people are OK with that but I just get the feeling a lot of people won't do it if it means logging in so it defeats the purpose a bit. The IP logging would be ideal, but Google Forms hasn't got that feature and doing a quick scan around the web it seems that a lot of other people want that feature too.

I think I might need to consider migrating the survey over to some other software. I'll put out a call for some suggestions when I post the next results.

A Reminder To Fill Out Our February Survey

There's not much I can do to stop people filling it in more than once. The only option that I can think of would be to have people sign in and take their emails, but I would rather have slightly less accurate results than make people give personal information.

Yes, the numbers have dropped a bit this month and at the rate it was going, I don't think we'll make the 1000 responses I'd like to get for a good sample size. The problem is that with the new site layout, we lost the reminder on the carousel so need to think of new ways to remind people to fill it in.

I'm considering other options. One could be to have a permalink to an article (say gamingonlinux.com/survey) with all previous results there and a link to the current survey - would have to work out the best way of doing that and see if Liam is up for it.

For now I think the best way to avoid confusion is by looking at the "unique questions" - if they seem familiar then youi have probably already filled it in.

Also, YES please do share the survey :)

EDIT: Added the suggestion to check the unique questions before filling in to avoid duplicates.
