Dying Light From Techland Has A Little Hint About Linux Support

It's so insanely buggy though and after all these years they never really fixed so many of the issues present across platforms. Putting aside the graphical glitches, for me the only weapons which appeared in crates were brass knuckles and the only items that spawned were bottles of alcohol, so could only mod weapons with what I could buy from people. So basically stuck with whatever weapons I could find lying around. That apparently happens to a lot of Windows users too, it just seems really lazy that they never fixed that because it's a pretty major issue.

Quoting: FeistWell, it *is* very similar in appearance to Dead Island. However, I don't consider that a negative, since i rather liked the graphical style of Dead Island & DI: Riptide and this game seems to be an upgrade in quality while maintaining a noticeable resemblance.Yeah, surprisingly I enjoyed Dead Island as well. Wasn't expecting to, but for some reason I got pretty hooked on it for a while despite the lack of story or character development. I think the mechanics were quite satisfying (knocking heads off with blunt weapons and stuff), it's nice to sit back and play it with a controller.
Dead Island also had a great focus on co-op gaming but I logged 59 hours of single-player gaming with it so I'm not concerned. ;-)

Is it me or is this almost identical to Dead Island? Even the weapons are the same, the setting and zombies seem pretty similar too. If I had seen some of the footage but without the game's name, I would have thought it was a preview of of Dead Island 2.
Still, the "intense story" part draws me in a bit. It's been forever since I've played a first person AAA game with a decent story. Then again, the "four player co-op" kind of suggests a bad single player experience and the fact that it's centered around zombies leads me to believe that it might be yet another game made by people who have seen lots of films but never read a book. We'll just have to see I suppose.

Awesome! Nice work Hamish!
I've been wanting to play Yahzee's games since I found out he had made them a while back. He's one of those few people out there who I agree with on almost everything video game related (story, game mechanics, which games are good, which are bad, which are SpunkGargleWeeWee, etc) so reckon I'll enjoy some of these - especially with the commentary.
Would be interesting to see a Zero Punctuation on Steam Machines and on Linux gaming generally, or just his general thoughts.
EDIT: Which of these do you recommend most to start with?

Aspyr Media Have A New Port Due Soon & Might Bring Their Games To GOG

Not saying it's going to be that, but the statement kind of implies it will be something like that. Some cult classic or something.

Quoting: SslaxxAnd as for the HD remaster of HoMM III - aside from it being way off-field, isn't it using UPlay? As far as I can tell there's o UPlay. It's on Steam and no mention of third party DRM. Could be wrong though.

Wild stab in the dark, but if not one guess in 1000 has been right, it will probably be something a bit obscure like this.

Over 1000 guesses across the net, and nobody has come close.Just a theory, but could it be Heroes of Might and Magic III? Seems like the kind of thing that would be done "for love" and there's a re-master out soon, but Windows-only despite having had Linux and Mac ports in the past.
Darth is right, we did this one for love. We hope you like it, but we are cool if you dont

This is really good news.
Buy on Linux and ONLY Linux. Wait for the Linux version if you can.And that's really good advice.
A Closer Look At The Upcoming Cities: Skylines
16 Jan 2015 at 6:12 pm UTC
This one looks well built, but I prefer the visual style of CitiesXL. I don't like the whole cartoonish feel to it. The scale of the cities you can build is also much smaller.
I guess all in all, there's a big city sim void in me which I feel can never properly be filled. I do really like the look of this, but I just kinda know it's not exactly what out of one of these games and just a bit annoyed that the closest thing to date feels like an unfinished sandbox game.

Quoting: GuestI’ve already wasted money on Crusader Kings 2 (bad tutorial) and Cities in Motion 2 (broken game), so I’ll be very careful before buying anything published by Paradox from now on.Yeah Paradox tutorials have been traditionally bad, considering they're some of the most complicated games out there (CK2 is probably one of the more simple ones), but in all fairness, it would be impossible to explain everything in a tutorial. It would take maybe 10 hours to play through the tutorial and no-one would play the games. Best thing is to learn the basics, then have the EU4/CK2 wiki open in another window and learn through trial and error. The games are pretty harsh as well in assuming you have quite a good knowledge of history and politics in their respective periods, makes the game far easier to play if you do. When you take the two month correspondence course to learn to play one of the games though, it's insanely rewarding.
What do you guys make of it?It looks good, but I don't want to get my hopes up too much. The genre is amazing, but has carried with it so many disappointments ever since "Sim City Societies" was released. The best hope was CitiesXL, but had so many problems and wasted potential and CitiesXXL won't support Linux and will probably be the same game with a few additional things.

EDIT: Also does this mean we can get a full remake of Pokemon Red and Blue on Linux? I would be up for that!

Quoting: CybaCowboyWow, that's interesting stuff. Might explain why they kept the project secret until now as well and why they make sure the word "FAN" is very clearly visible. Higher hopes for this now!
Well now that you mentioned it, I just remembered something and it is [iexactly[/i] why I might be wrong about The Big N having a dummy-spit - Nintendo announced a few weeks back that they are permitting fair use of their intellectual property for fan-made projects!

I agree with everyone in that the big barrier to this is Nintendo. Though this game is non-commercial, they might still kick up a fuss. For their own PR interests and considering they lose no money from this, if I were them I'd keep quiet like they did with that silly Flappy Bird game. I think certain companies are starting to realise that playing Big Corporate Baddie makes them look bad.
In Japan it's definitely a cultural thing, remnants of budhist/shinto ideas of the spirit of the artist being in his/her creations and that being sacred. Combined with the hysterical lawyer culture of North America, it's a country quite tied to copyright, intellectual property. It's probably one of the main reasons Linux barely has a presence there.
All in all I'm pretty hopeful though actually :). And I loved the game back in the day and the N64 in general, second-best console of the generation :P
EDIT: Also, I think if Nintendo want to protect the artistic integrity of Mario, then they'd go after those thousands of horrible Chinese Mario clones rather than a game which actually does the characters and world justice.
