Quoting: JarmerTo me there seems to be just a fundamental misunderstanding from the gnome team about the dimension of ... a screen. You know. The thing you use this software on. I have NEVER understood it. I simply can never use it because of this. [...]That is one of the things that distub me the most about GNOME – it seems hellbent on wasting my screenspace.

I have gotten the games with some bundle ages ago, I think – but I've never gotten around to play them. Do they still hold up today?

Quoting: dziadulewicz[...] I'm sure you have noticed how fast "empires" can come down nowadays in entertainment (Star Wars is in nothing short of trouble in TV-series and games alike canceled seasons and new game don't sell). [...]Well, in the case of Star Wars it helped that the powers that be seem hellbent on trying to destroy what came before. The whole "the extended universe isn't canon and we are changing established stories" was not a good move IMHO.

Quoting: Pengling[...] It just goes to show how little they have going for them in this case if that's all they could come up with, so hopefully they'll lose this one and won't be able to enact chilling effects on future competition. They'll also have a really hard time enforcing such patents, as software and gameplay mechanics are not universally patentable over the world.

And the GOG version of Horizon Zero Dawn still has the horrible feature of scanning all your stuff and phoning home, but that is more the publisher's fault.
Have there been any other incidents?

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyTechnically you're correct - but GOG.com is a rare exception to the rule; in saying that, there have been occasional instances over the years where GOG.com has still wrapped games in DRM, as I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong).I remember people being angry about the Aliens vs Predator MP requiring the Galaxy client. But IIRC they had to completely rewrite that part of the software, so without that effort we would not have MP at all.

Quoting: JoomThere's quite a few indies that still allow self-hosting. They're mostly MMOs and survival games, but that's kind of how it's always been. My friends and I run servers for Abiotic Factor, Enshrouded, Palworld, Valheim, and we're thinking of kicking a Path of Titans server. We hate playing on pubs, and if a game offers a server, we try to opt for that.True, some still exist. But I am still miffed about the deactivation of the BFBC2 servers. I liked that game.

It has made me personally invest a lot less time, money and effort into playing MP games though.

Quoting: _wojtekIsn't this because of the publishers/developers wanting to keep tight grip on the game? And everything having to be connected and "massive"? Quite often local clan would be more than enough to have fun...I recon it is...

Quoting: mZSq7Fq3qsI miss the times when allmost all games had their own dedicaded servers available and you could just host your own server.Good god, yes! I am SO annoyed by the fact that community maintained servers are going the way of the dodo...
