Alienware Show Off Their SteamOS Steam Machine, Looking Very Positive, More Games To Come
19 Jun 2015 at 5:08 pm UTC Likes: 5

I know Alienware overall has a pretty bad rap for being overpriced, however I think some people forget who owns them. Dell owns Alienware and is one of, if not the only big name PC maker who offers both desktops AND laptops pre-installed with Linux(Ubuntu) and has done so for a while now.

I have a feeling there are some people working at Dell/Alienware who are probably just as excited as we are to finally see Linux gaming go somewhere. I may just be overly optimistic, but my fingers are still crossed anyways that Steam Machines take off, even if I have no reason to own one.

Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.

OH man.. that would be a pretty bad fail on Valve's part to release Steam Machine's on the same day as FO4 and it not work on them. I had not put 2&2 together until seeing this article so my fingers are crossed it is coming to Linux as well.

Valve Finally Have A Proper Refund Policy For Steam

Quoting: scotsman9999Now they just need a way to delete games from your library, refund or no (many games I regret buying and would just like to expel from my library, no refund expected)
Right click, set category, click the hide tickbox.
I know, but I'd prefer it more permanent.
You could locate the install directory under SteamApps, zip the directory up, and email it to the devs/publisher and tell them you're returning the product because it's defective?
LOLZ! If someone does this (and they should) PLEASE let us know how that goes ;)

As for the subject at hand, this is awesome! One of the major reasons devs/publishers have been getting away with the buggy crap they put out is because it has been nearly impossible much of the time to return their buggy crap.

First of all people shouldn't be pre-ordering in the first place IMO. With this policy now in place... if you are going to pre-order (for pre-order bonuses or whatever) make sure to do it and have enough time to test it when it comes out within that 14 day window. If the game is buggy, broken or whatever get a refund. Hit them where it hurts. It shouldn't take long to get the point across that they have to stop this crap. I would prefer a game be delayed and work than have the excitement of a new game installing and running the first time only be shattered by bugs and/or horrible optimization.

Steam Replaces The Linux Tux Logo With SteamOS
27 May 2015 at 9:48 pm UTC

Quoting: DrMcCoyUgh, I hate it.

Another thing I just found out and hate: Enhanced Steam stopped supporting Firefox. 7.3 was the last version for Firefox, the later ones are Chrome-only. Instead, they want to concentrate on an Enhanced Steam standalone application, which just defeats the purpose of Enhanced Steam altogether. Blergh.
NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I'm not going to use chrome and "browsing" Steam via the Steam app sucks! I want the extra info and I want to easily open/close tabs. This sucks.

Oculus Has "Paused" Linux Development On The Rift VR Headset
17 May 2015 at 8:26 pm UTC

I've not seen anyone mention the biggest problem for a headset like this and Linux... pretty much no Linux games can make use of multiple GPU's. This is mostly a limitation of OpenGL and not necessarily the drivers as I understand it. In order to render 2x 1080p @ 90fps in the types of games that a headset like this makes sense for multiple GPU's are pretty much a must. Unless you want to turn the visuals way down and IMO that would kill off half of the reason to use it. I have a feeling they have been running into that limitation and could be a reason for putting Linux (and mac) on the back burner.

The good news is that Vulkan will actually make use of multiple GPUs. So that limitation should be a thing of the past in a couple of years.

Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition Announced, No Linux Release Date

Quoting: ricki42Seems shady that they are now doing PS4 and XB1 ports before releasing the promised Linux version that the people who backed the kickstarter already paid for.
It doesn't "seem" shady.. it IS shady. It is also the reason for the "UI" changes and the controller support. I'm sure the menu system is now terrible for M&K users. If lucky you can choose.

Spec Ops: The Line Released For Linux, Initial Port Report Included

Quoting: LinasIt does have the same floaty laggy mouse input like Witcher 2 and Bioshock Infinite. Not severe, but definitely noticeable, especially after doing a few rounds of Counter-Strike: GO.
So I'm not the only one to notice it. I tried to get into The Witcher 2 and play it in Linux when it was finally running well and I had a horrific time doing battle in general and died A LOT, even on "normal difficulty"(don't remember what it was called) I think I died 20+ times trying to get past the dragon at the castle in the beginning and also fighting that one guy at the top of that tower at the castle in the beginning. Heck I even had trouble with the arena style tutorial! I ended up making it to the first town after many deaths and ended up getting frustrated with it and quit playing.

Fast forward to a little over a week ago, TW3 is coming soon and wondered if I should get it (I"M DEFINITELY GOING TO). I decided I wanted to see how it played in windows (yep, filthy dual booter) where I could actually make use of all of my GPU's and play it in surround @ 5760x1080. Guess what.... I had NO problems with combat at the same difficulty level and I didn't die a single time in the entire "castle intro". It was then that I realized there had to be some crazy input lag. After "beating" it in windows, and obviously being proficient at TW combat now, I fired it back up in Linux and I struggled a bit again. I suppose some people might get use to it, but it gets a "no thank you" from me.

As for Spec Ops. It crashed 3 times on me in maybe 15 minutes.... so I didn't really get to see if the input lag was an issue. I'll probably wait for a patch or two before trying again. @ 1080p it ran @ 60fps no problems other than the "loading stutter" others mentioned, even with it running from an SSD and having pretty fast DDR4 RAM. Oh well, glad it was on sale.

Victor Vran RPG From The Tropico Developers Released For Linux, Some Initial Thoughts

Hell yes! This looks to be my kind of action RPG! No EA for me, but I suspect Liam will let us know when it is out of EA and ready to go ;)

I couldn't NOT get it with it priced 80% off. I'm not the biggest fan of these VP ports, but I doubt they would have spent the time to do this natively so "it is what it is". Having the same GPU as Liam I suspect it will run fine for me.
