DOOM (2016) gets a surprise release on GOG with a big discount

@Klaas
The GOG version has no multiplayer
Not that unusual for releases on the GOG store. I have no idea if it was the only way GOG could get the publisher to agree to put it on their store or if the publisher simply disabled the multiplayer to avoid headaches with servers that are no longer supported and/or active.

GOG's push has always been primarily to guarantee the ability to play singleplayer while offline, DRM-free. Never really bothered me since I'm not a fan of multiplayer gaming in general.

Ubuntu 25.04 upgrades halted due to Kubuntu users getting a broken desktop

Oof! I'm with @M@GOid and @tannertech on this one. I typically wait a couple minor updates before taking on the next major update. Gives the devs a chance to work out the kinks and is less hassle for me.

I guess I should say thanks to early adopters, though, as they are the ones who identify those kinks. :wink:

That being said, I was testing Kubuntu's major upgrade feature in a VM a while back. After the second upgrade, I could only login to KDE in Wayland mode. Xorg would cause Plasma to lock up and crash. So, not the first time the upgrade tool buggered things up ...

A public alpha of the 'semi-immutable' Manjaro Summit Linux is now available

@kurcatovium

Now, that's one distro I haven't tried. I heard that openSUSE Tumbleweed was more for advanced power users (much like Arch) and, assuming it might have a steep learning curve, I skipped over it. I prefer distros that "just work" with minimal tweaking -- well, like Linux Mint, for example. I'll admit, the rolling release feature is appealing, though.

@Daniel-Alhadeff

Thank you for caring enough about prospective customers to release a demo. Much appreciated.

A public alpha of the 'semi-immutable' Manjaro Summit Linux is now available

Honestly, I have no concerns about Manjaro's stability. As long as I kept the AUR disabled, I never had problems with updates. I think that KDE Plasma was at its most stable and reliable for me on Manjaro.

I left Manjaro for two reasons. Manjaro's support for legacy Nvidia GPUs was really bad. They knew it and didn't care to do anything about it. More current drivers were available on other distros but not theirs. The final straw was when I heard they were planning on introducing M$ style telemetry, turned on by default.

I moved on. I have not since found a KDE Plasma distro I liked as much. Instead, I run on Xfce or Pop!_OS for my gaming.

The description makes it sound quite interesting. Couldn't they have come up with a better name, though?

Caught my interest but I don't do Early Access. Too bad they don't have a current demo available.

Boomer shooter Gravelord adds controller support and gets Steam Deck Verified

The irony here being that most gamers who play this kind of game are probably Gen X rather than Boomer!
I was going to say the same thing.

I loved the wisecracking humour of Duke Nukem 3D. The level design and the logical flow from one level to another also impressed me. If Gravelord can capture both of those aspects, it should be a great game.

It's not been made clear why it's exclusive to GOG.
Because it's a good old game ... ?

Not my thing but, after 9 years, to be still giving it so much love and attention is impressive. My applause to the development studio, Hello Games, for the great post-release support.
