Hints appear of Valve making a handheld Steam "SteamPal" Neptune console
26 May 2021 at 11:01 am UTC

Quoting: rustybroomhandleAs for the price of the device. They'd have to sell it for close to cost or at a loss to compete with the Switch.
Hell for a UMPC I would even take it at cost as I figure Valve has an OK-ish chance to under cut the GPD Win devices even selling at cost. While a niche market there is definitely a market and the lack of good options for Linux (Most the GPD devices have various issues with Linux when I looked into them) would probably make me pull the trigger on one finally. Plus in my case I could run a good chunk of my library on a portable device from being stuck on an iGPU system for several years so I have plenty of lighter games I really enjoy.

System76 releases the open source Launch Configurable Keyboard

Quoting: barottoCool, but the missing numpad and media control keys is a showstopper for me since I use them all the time.

I hope they'll launch a standard model in the future.
Well it does have media control keys on a secondary layer and you could easily program a numpad onto one of the layers as well.

Now most interesting thing about this board to me is the fact it's probably the first commercial board the ship with the BOX line of switches which are some of the best clicky tactile switches on the market. Granted the price is a bit on the high side but I expect that from a high end keyboard like this.

Quoting: The_Aquabatthere's only one user with a 7680x4320 monitor, who's the fortunate? I'm a bit jealous. :P
My favorite statistic is that there are 3 people here with 12 monitors. Not one. Three.
Yeah the hardware stats around here get a bit wild, I mean look at how common 4K is with the users of this site compared to other data sources related to gaming.

I must not buy another retro throwback shooter, I must not buy another retro throwback shooter... In all seriousness though it looks good I might have to pick it up after I work through some of my backlog a bit.

Dungeon-crawler Tangledeep gets a new streamlined mode, try the devs new game too
25 Mar 2021 at 10:39 am UTC

Quoting: scaineThis is weird - I re-installed Tangledeep just three days ago out of the blue when I noticed that I'd only played an hour, but it's the kind of game I enjoy.
Hey I don't even have the excuse of not having it installed I just still have not got around to playing it much since I bought it.

There's no monkeying around in the new roller game Rolled Out!

Got the game to only have it trigger the crashing issues a small handful of titles cause me with my GPU
This really sucks as I loved the Monkey Ball series and was looking forward to playing this.

According to a Stadia developer, streamers should be paying publishers and it backfired

Quoting: ajgpThats not to say a publisher in the future could change their position and want some sort of license deal, but I can imagine that would be a PR nightmare.
PR nightmare of the century given how many games seem to live and die on whether or not Twitch streamers or Youtubers pick them up. Just look at the sales spike Caves of Qud seen from SsethTzeentach doing a review. This is not the first game he's caused a huge sales spike either, the dev of UnderRail credits him with making the game profitable all of a sudden after he covered it from the spike in sales and interest they seen from it. Mind you he's just a single channel let alone when multiple channels pick up a game.

On the Caves of Qud spike all I have to say is "hey, hey, people". Seriously that man can cause massive spikes in sales it's not the first time he's caused a spike like that for a game won't be the last.

Debian Linux is planning a gaming-focused event online in November
3 Oct 2020 at 4:21 pm UTC Likes: 2

Good to hear it's still happening as there is a packaging sprint planned to get more DSFG games packaged up. As there are a ton that some people have requested to be packaged that still are not and a few of them it would probably help them get more exposure as a project. It's not like Debian is unaware about gaming if they where well then Steam wouldn't be one of the most common packages on the non-free section on the repo to be installed by desktop users.

EDIT: Words are hard.
