Kyle Pittman From Minor Key Games Talks About Low Linux Sales, And More

Quoting: stssLinux users only make up about 2% of steam overall. So 2% Linux sales is the baseline for "normal" reception from Linux gamers.
You should only question that if your sales are below 2%, and if your sales are above 2% you should be thanking Linux users, not taking a dump on them.

This makes me feel no sympathy for them whatsoever. To blame the group of gamers that had a higher ratio of supporters within its own playerbase than the other OS which they didn't even mention is inexcusable.

Again, this is not what the developer is doing in the Gamasutra article at all. He's simply stating that those 50 sales didn't even come close to covering the cost of porting his engine to Linux.

And I just noticed this part from the article:

Quoting: liamdaweI was a gamer back in the days of the Amiga, and I loved it back then, but it doesn't mean I want to go back to those games with their awkward controls and funny looking screens. Not to say SWtG is awkward, but it's very much like all those games I played before my teens.

SWtG is actually nothing like those Amiga games, or the NES games it draws inspiration from, in terms of controls. Both it and its free predecessor You Have to Win the Game have extremely tight controls and are a joy to play for any platformer enthusiast.

I also want to note that the developer has been great at responding to and fixing issues reported on the Steam forums. If you mention that issue there I'm sure he'll at least try to get it sorted out, thelimeydragon.

This is one of my favorites among anything that's released this year. Including any AAA premiering on Linux. I do understand that it's a niche game but it's far from the same thing as booting up one of the classics it's inspired by through an emulator as it's a modern take on the genre, including design and tight controls. It's a game that should appeal to indie hits like Super Meat Boy but I agree that the price point probably put many off the game even though it felt just right to me.

And Skiski is definitely right in that the developer is not singling out or bitching about Linux specifically. It's just one of many points he makes about where he might have gone wrong; including the price of the game.

It's a great game but it hasn't found its market. I hope the winter sale and a potential future permanent price cut might remedy that.

I took part in the beta and rather enjoyed what was available at the time. I've been meaning to play the full version but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Football Manager 2015 Released This Week
9 November 2014 at 12:37 am UTC

I've never actually played any football manager type games either, except those online fantasy football leagues a few times after having been coaxed into it by friends and/or co-workers. Last time I entered it cost me a case of beer. There's definitely more to it than just buying the most expensive players though, as you have to find a set of players that work as a team. Plus if you want to make money trading players you have to consider it as sort of a stock market, where you earn money by predicting which players are going to increase in value after you buy them.

As for actual football video games, the only one I ever really played was Nintendo World Cup on the NES. I don't think there was any manager aspect to it though and the whole thing was more of a parody on football. It was a ton of fun though.

The Talos Priniciple Public Test Released

Quoting: GuestTo get an enjoyable experience I had to reduce the GPU setting to Medium (on a GTX 660), halve the mouse sensivity, and enable mouse smoothing. Much better afterwards :).

I had forgotten about it but I actually also turned down the mouse sensitivity after playing through the first puzzle and thinking the camera felt too jumpy. That would explain why I went from ~30-40 fps to ~40-50 fps. Haven't tried mouse smoothing yet though.

Quoting: EKRboiI just stumbled upon a free sigils mini game from them to help warm you up ;) I see a few people from here have played it that are in my friends list.

Sigils of Elohim

Yeah, we actually covered that in an article. ;)

The Talos Priniciple Public Test Released
6 November 2014 at 11:17 pm UTC

I got some pretty extreme frame rate drops during transitions and a few big ones while walking. Other than that the game was mostly between 40-50 fps, which was much better than I'd expected on my 2 year old laptop with a GeForce GT 630M.

I also really enjoyed the puzzles and had a neat conversation with the "developer console" AI. I collected 2 stars but I suspect there are at least a couple more hidden away somewhere.
