Mad Max meets Vulkan in a new fully public beta for Linux, benchmarks and OpenGL vs Vulkan comparisons
30 March 2017 at 11:52 pm UTC

Great performances but I get weird dips...

i7-2600, 16gb, GTX960 4gb, driver 375.39.

Benchmark 1:
avg_fps: 67
min_fps: 6
max_fps: 125

Benchmark 2:
avg_fps: 48
min_fps: 33
max_fps: 50

Benchmark 3:
avg_fps: 67
min_fps: 4
max_fps: 139

Benchmark 4:
avg_fps: 75
min_fps: 4
max_fps: 129

Too bad for the low fps drops. Usually it lasts just a couple of frames and in between it's awesome.

Awesome work Feral! May I marry you? Lol!

Quoting: edddeduck_feralOther games might not get as large a boost, the exact benefits very much depend on if the game is CPU or GPU bound and why.

What about Grid Autosport? It's a well known CPU bound game. Could it use the Vulkan boost?

Edit: Hey Liam! Over 60 comments in that short amount of time... Are we breaking a record? :)

But the biggest drawback for me is short analog stick - makes racing games really difficult - it may be so because I've been using Logitech gamepads for years but still - I quickly switched to steering with gyroscope.

In fact, the Gyro for racing games is probably the best part. :)

I don't know for Dirt Rally but for Grid Autosports... For my part, awesome!

And I finished both Metro games with SC with the Gyro for precise aiming. Works great too.

Edit: Bad reading from my part. Duh!

Quoting: MohandevirDidn't they specified that a Vulkan version of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is in the pipeline? ;)

No they misspoke during that livestream and this has been cleared up a few times. To make it clear i've put a note at the top of that article.

Oh sorry! Didn't got that one. I still had the unupdated version of this article in mind.
Still it's sad. This game could have used the vulkan performance boost over OpenGL.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and before that Mad Max (finished). I must be an easy prey because I found both games awesome. I don't understand all the negative critics Deus Ex recieved... Was it updated to correct the flaws?

Got Rive from Humble monthly... Played with it a couple of minutes to find out it was more like half an hour... Could easily get hooked up to this one. :)

Next up... Hitman!

Quoting: LeopardAt some point you will see people will prefer Ms store to Steam.
Amongst the Xbox console owners, true. But only those. And that will not change - Steam will never be able to offer a cross play to that segment anyway.

But yeah - it's of course a good thing for those with both a Steambox and a Windows PC.

That thing will be much more strong argument i guess, which MS do their own platform exclusive titles now and then.

So if you want to play them, you must stick with MS solutions. If you start to invest a platform or a store,it will be hard for to let it go.Just look at the Apple ecosystem, most of the people are highly bounded with them because people don't want to buy their paid apps once more.

That threat is so strong, only PlayStation and Origin can survive this because they have some kickass exclusive games.

Just to add to the discussion...

It seems that Microsoft is gearing up to push UWP to it's full potential... Usually it starts like that and in a future update becomes mandatory. That's Microsoft's usual way of imposing stuff.

Quoting: chuzzle44I want to be excited, but Grid Autosport taught me that I can't drive. Beautiful, amazing game, and all I can do do is spin and crash my way through the game. Here's hoping for a good arcade racer.

Have you tried Dirt Showdown? That's quite Arcade to me and real fun. :)

Oh yes! Spacious skies, you'll be mine! :)

Looking forward to test the Steam Controller gyro on this one! It makes an awesome steering wheel in Grid Autosport.
