Steam purchases now clearly state you're just getting a license not ownership

Quoting: GuestAs far as i know, you still need the steam client to restore those backups
You don't need Steam client to restore if you just copy or tar a game's directory.
I have a pretty clear example of that: Witcher 3.
It's possible to launch the game by running it's original .exe file, in the Steam game folder, via Wine, and Steam doesn't launch and is not even aware of it. Ok, it's CDPR... Owner of GOG, but Steam won't prevent any devs of doing the same and that trick probably works on many games, already.

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare come to PC on October 29

Maybe... One day... If I can muster enough willpower to finish RDR2... I must have installed this game 4 or 5 times, played a couple of hours then deleted it.

Even if I acknowledge the quality of this game, I always end up with a feeling of doing chores, when I try it. Too much management. Over complicated menus and inventory. For me, this is when realism breaks the fun.

"But it's not the game, it's me".

Steam Deck - SteamOS 3.6.15 Beta: Zoomer Edition released

Eagerly waiting for the stable release. I'm not really familiar with these release cycles, but am I being "delusional" to think it might be soon?

Valve appear to be testing ARM64 and Android support for Steam on Linux

So it would make a lot of sense for Valve to be working on a system like this to extend Proton support to ARM64 and get Android-based apps / games working as well.
It was Steam on Chromebooks that made me think Valve were likely funding FEX.
Tought about that too. There was no official release of Steam "Borealis" project. It seems the project is in Limbo, since Nvidia scrapped it's Chromebook initiative. Maybe it never got to the performance level they hoped for? Could Valve made the decision to switch to a native ChromeOS client?

This said, Nvidia also displayed an arm based rtx powered laptop, running some form of Arch, in the same period. Could it be that?

GTA V / GTAOnline highlights Steam Deck's verification system has problems

perhaps it’s finally time for Valve to allow developers to officially list their games as supported via Proton for Linux-based platforms
This. Maybe it could be as easy as what they did for cloud gaming and family sharing (an opt-in/opt-out option). Forcing Devs to commit: "Do you support or not Proton and/or the Steam Deck" and create an easy to see filter, in the store pages for the devs that support Proton officially. Free advertising to these devs and make them first class citizens, above and before the Steam Deck verified program.

I'll just wait for a good sale, then. I'm not in a hurry. I bought Uncharted, last week.

Microsoft Windows kernel changes don't suddenly mean big things for Linux gaming

Even if I once wrote that I hoped for kernel-level anti-cheat getting blocked (ea anti-cheat discussion), I never really tought it would happen. So, not really surprised.

This said, It feels like the best solution that would give control to the devs, for Linux anti-cheat, is probably through a native linux client. That's probably why they are waiting for tens of millions of Linux users? Less than that, it would be too much assle for the number of potential players? Am I wrong to think so?

Valve puts two Steam Deck LCD models on sale for Steam's birthday

I created my Steam account in november of 2012(?), when Steam launched officially on Linux. I formatted my Windows drive and installed Linux on my i7-3770 coupled to a GTX650 with 1GB of VRAM... What a beast! Lol! In fact, I think I started on a Core 2 Duo E8400 and switched to the i7-3770 not long after... The amount of Linux supported games was in the forties, if my memory is right? I played a lot of Portal & Trine, when it started, then Half Life a little later. At that time, I bought all Linux games at the second they became available. What a ride since then!
