what a strange coincidence /sarcasm
There seem to be many reviews noting a major FPS boost from today like this one.

***POST DENUVO REMOVAL REVIEW***

[...] Around Pyloon's Saloon I used to get anywhere between 50 and 70 fps with HUGE stutters (Thanks Denuvo for that...).

Now I'm getting anywhere between 70 and 100 with buttery smooth gameplay with that POS DRM removed, (1440p, high settings with FSR on Quality).

The Shattered Moon I'm getting between 70 to 100 fps as well.

Galaxy map does tank the FPS but honestly, I'll take that over the denuvo Crap any day.

My Rig is as Follows:

rx 6750xt
r5 5600x
32gb Ram
Yep, but the problem was never fps. It was the frame pacing that caused major stuttering issues. My PC was running the game at 80-100fps, but with way too much fps drops and stuttering.

Edit:
Just did a test of my own. Pretty similar experience, at lower fps, on my Ryzen 5 3600 with RX 6600. I'm able to run the game at High settings and enjoy the experience. It's not perfect, meaning I have seen smoother running games, but it's much better, no doubt. Koboh is/was by far the most punishing place for your hardware.

Edit 2:
The game now correctly recognize my controller when I use the Steam Link app! All inputs are working as intended!

I bought it a while back, during a big sale (at least), when I forgot about the EA launcher and the terrible performance issues it had. I had to finish the game on Windows because with proton, the game crashed continuously, at specific points. It crashed on Windows too, but it was random and not game breaking. Aside from this, the stuttering issues it had... Woah! What a garbage game! The only way to play this game and get a nearly enjoyable time is to drop everything to low, even on my PC. This is when I decided to boycott EA.

Edit: Reinstalling it just to see if there is a big upgrade, on Linux.

Quoting: finaldestHere we go again,

When will folks learn that physical media is the only true way to have ownership.

I know PC games generally don't get physical releases so I now buy PS4 and PS5 games when I want a copy to preserve. Most PlayStation games work offline without ever needing an update but PS5 does have a backup option built in.

I still primarily buy games on Steam but accept the risk I could lose games in the future. I will also be using GOG where possible to buy games I want to preserve as they offer a direct download of the installer.

I now have over 600 Movies and 30 PS4/5 Games on physical. I now refuse to just rely on 3rd parties with my media purchases.
Fair enough, but physical medias stop working at some point. Physical media stop being sold too and then can't be found anywhere. Personnally, I also accept the risks coming with Steam's commodity, but imo, the best case scenario is still being offered the possibility of keeping a standalone backup of a game. If you got that, your are covered and physical or digital doesn't really matter. In this case, Itch.io will stop offering the "remote backup" on their servers (similar to when physical medias are not longer available), but you have up to the 1st of october to make your own backup. That's how I see it.

Sad, but it's not all doom. There is still a solution to keep the game forever.

Meaning: You have up to the 1st of October to buy/download the game and make a backup of it somewhere.

In an all digital world, it's a bad PR move, but at least, we have that option.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI don't trust Acer. I recently bought an Acer laptop for some reason and was reminded of why I don't trust Acer.
Not really surprised... It should be a matter of time before DELL joins the fray with an Alienware handheld... But the price?!

Windows 11... When will they learn? Pfff...

This said, when fully supported by a Linux handheld distro... I'm so fed up with Asus, I would give it a shot first, but I'll wait for the Steam Deck 2.

Quoting: eldarionAnd this is why you should not rent a game (which is what you do when purchase anything on steam).
Please explain because, from my point of view, you will get this forced update, no matter where you bought the game, else you will get blocked from playing the game. It's not a renting or Steam issue, it's a live service game issue.
I was not referring to online games in particular, but the state of gaming in general. I'm sorry to bring this to you, Steam Deck lovers, but steam is an aweful store. You, as an open source OS users should know that. Or maybe not, if all you care is Steam Deck itself (no matter if it runs Linux, windows or temple OS).
I beg to differ, but I respect your point of view.

I have no intentions of starting that old debate again.

Quoting: MohandevirBad wording from my part, I should have used "Windows" instead of "Microsoft", I admit. My bad.
On the happy side, Linux has advantages over Windows for gaming. Games can run better on Linux even when they aren't built, or optimised, or tested, for Linux, and it's much easier to put together a controller-friendly interface using the abstractions of the Linux ecosystem than it is to do the same in the integrated Windows ecosystem.
...And there is another thing to take into account, I do not have statistics to back this, but many PC gamers are DIY builders. Windows doesn't come preinstalled on these PC. If Valve releases a desktop version of SteamOS, it might lure a couple of them to our side. It's already begun.
