Quoting: ashleysmithgpuI'm not sure I'm allowed to say much on this yet, but check this post: http://www.gamedev.net/topic/666419-what-are-your-opinions-on-dx12vulkanmantle/#entry5215019 [External Link] for multi-gpu. :)
Thanks, quite a nice link that gives an insider's look on the subject.

In this exemple, you can really see the load balancing between cpu cores and it's great but there's nothing about switchable gpus. They can balance the load in this aspect too, so I read, on pcgaming. They are able to give some tasks to the Intel onboard gpu while the NVidia or AMD graphic card keep its ressources to deal with the most serious tasks.

You are right Dubigrasu. With the GTX 750, Phoronix gets an average of 18fps at High. I get 29.5 fps.

Personnal experience, I tried driver 352 from xorg-edger and got an avg of 29.8fps vs driver 346 (29.5 fps). The bad part is the lowest that drops to 11 fps (352) instead of 15 fps (346). Had a couple of slowdowns and I decided to revert back to 346 and purge Xorg-edger.

I even experienced slowdowns during the startup animations (Feral and WB logo).

Pretty weird behaviors...

Edit: Man I love this game! It's my #1 game. Stole the top spot from The Witcher 2.

My system is an i7-2600 with a GTX-750ti on Ubuntu 15.04 with driver 346.59.

Using the in-game performance test, I get the following results:

Low:
13.38/68.18 (42.56avg)
Middle:
14.40/54.35 (30.11avg)
High:
13.37/52.95 (29.58avg)

I've played for 2 hours without any problems.
Much better than I expected. I really enjoy this game. Thank you Feral!

With my steam controller that I'll get by octobre 15, I sure will be a Good hunter. I restarted my training by playing The Witcher 2 all over again...

Wrapper?! Was he looking over my shoulder while I was writing?! Anyway, a good hunter doesn't care for the means, he is judged for the results. :)

SteamOS/Linux Version Of Gauntlet Cancelled

Amd based laptop... Right from the start laptops, more often than not, and because they are often built with custom hardware, have specific drivers made by the builders, even on windows. It's the case with my DELL laptop. You can't downlad a driver from AMD and hope it will work (on windows), you have to use the DELL certified driver. Must be the same with Lenovo. Knowing this, if the cie doesn't support Linux you get exposed to many sorts of weird behaviors.

Take into account the state of Amd gpu drivers, even for a tower... Just take look at the benchmarks... AMD is getting better but still has much to do to be on par with NVidia.

If Lenovo doesn't release their specs, there is not much Linux can do.

Quoting: InokiMy system is a perfect example, where I can't even launch LibreOffice without crashing my entire session (I already reported an Xorg bug, let's see how long will it take them to fix it. It's taking already more than 6 months.) Then there's the microphone not working and I'm not even going to continue.
Just curiosity, what is your system's configuration and what version of Ubuntu do you use?

I have 4 computers (Dualcore E8400 3.0ghz with Nvidia GT-240, DELL Inspiron N5110 with Radeon HD-6470m, DualCore G2030 with NVidia GTX-650 and I7-2600 with NVidia GTX-750ti) all running Ubuntu and never had that much problems.

Your problems with LibreOffice are quite unusual. It makes me wonder...

Oh well. One game I will have to remove from my steam wishlist. With 1300+ games, it's not like if it there was no other options. Still I used to play this game a lot when it was on NES... Too bad for my nostalgia. :)

The Steam Hardware Survey For May Is Here, It’s Not All Doom & Gloom

Quoting: sarmadWhy do so many people think that the survey appears more on Windows than Linux? If it's appearing more on Windows than Linux with you that just means you are using Steam under Windows more than you do under Linux.
Wrong. I use Linux the vast majority of the time, but it seems like every time I boot into Windows after months of not using it, I get a Steam survey. Is that what triggers it? The fact that I so rarely boot up Windows these days?
It did the same for me. A couple of months ago, I kept an old Win7 partition on a backup drive and when I started my Steam client on this platform, I got the survey 1/3 of times but I get it maybe twice a year on my Ubuntu system even if I start the client daily. Quite weird.

Quoting: subI hope rumours are not true that Newell just came up with Linux/SteamOS/SteamMachines to put pressure on Microsoft.
As Win10 seems like it will get good reception and "lacks" all the stuff Newell was afraid of, some people argue Valve might abandon Linux sooner or later. After all, SteamMachines missed the fantastic "Win8" time window to take off - and that sounds reasonable to me. :/
Valve won't drop SteamOS or Linux Support because it's the leverage that keeps M$ from doing anything foolish. Remove SteamOS and M$ will fall back to their old ways.

Add to this the fact that many partners (hardware, software and game developers) have invested time and money into this project. It would be nonsense to just drop the ball at the last minute.

The train is on the move... Slowly but it's moving. Let's hope it gains some momentum.

By the way, I still don't see any SteamOS mention in the survey and I never got the survey on mine. It's probably not a big percentage yet, but my belief is that it's not included in it. I don't think Valve would accept a mere Linux 3.xx entry in the survey for their own OS... :)
