SteamOS/Linux Version Of Gauntlet Cancelled
24 Jul 2015 at 8:21 pm UTC

Quoting: InokiMy system is a perfect example, where I can't even launch LibreOffice without crashing my entire session (I already reported an Xorg bug, let's see how long will it take them to fix it. It's taking already more than 6 months.) Then there's the microphone not working and I'm not even going to continue.
Just curiosity, what is your system's configuration and what version of Ubuntu do you use?

I have 4 computers (Dualcore E8400 3.0ghz with Nvidia GT-240, DELL Inspiron N5110 with Radeon HD-6470m, DualCore G2030 with NVidia GTX-650 and I7-2600 with NVidia GTX-750ti) all running Ubuntu and never had that much problems.

Your problems with LibreOffice are quite unusual. It makes me wonder...

SteamOS/Linux Version Of Gauntlet Cancelled

Oh well. One game I will have to remove from my steam wishlist. With 1300+ games, it's not like if it there was no other options. Still I used to play this game a lot when it was on NES... Too bad for my nostalgia. :)

The Steam Hardware Survey For May Is Here, It’s Not All Doom & Gloom

Quoting: sarmadWhy do so many people think that the survey appears more on Windows than Linux? If it's appearing more on Windows than Linux with you that just means you are using Steam under Windows more than you do under Linux.
Wrong. I use Linux the vast majority of the time, but it seems like every time I boot into Windows after months of not using it, I get a Steam survey. Is that what triggers it? The fact that I so rarely boot up Windows these days?
It did the same for me. A couple of months ago, I kept an old Win7 partition on a backup drive and when I started my Steam client on this platform, I got the survey 1/3 of times but I get it maybe twice a year on my Ubuntu system even if I start the client daily. Quite weird.

The Steam Hardware Survey For May Is Here, It’s Not All Doom & Gloom

Quoting: subI hope rumours are not true that Newell just came up with Linux/SteamOS/SteamMachines to put pressure on Microsoft.
As Win10 seems like it will get good reception and "lacks" all the stuff Newell was afraid of, some people argue Valve might abandon Linux sooner or later. After all, SteamMachines missed the fantastic "Win8" time window to take off - and that sounds reasonable to me. :/
Valve won't drop SteamOS or Linux Support because it's the leverage that keeps M$ from doing anything foolish. Remove SteamOS and M$ will fall back to their old ways.

Add to this the fact that many partners (hardware, software and game developers) have invested time and money into this project. It would be nonsense to just drop the ball at the last minute.

The train is on the move... Slowly but it's moving. Let's hope it gains some momentum.

By the way, I still don't see any SteamOS mention in the survey and I never got the survey on mine. It's probably not a big percentage yet, but my belief is that it's not included in it. I don't think Valve would accept a mere Linux 3.xx entry in the survey for their own OS... :)

Aspyr Media Are Teasing A New Game, They Promise Many Penguin Smiles
14 Apr 2015 at 11:10 pm UTC

I don't know what game it is but to avoid unecessary guesses, there are some interesting informations in the Aspyr statement:

"... and I mean ALL HANDS..."
It suggests that they are working on Mac and Linux ports. I doubt they would do so for Tux only.

"... It's also personally one of my favorite games of all time...."
So it's a game that has been available for some time and, as of today, a Windows exclusive.

Ok that still leaves a lot of choices but we have something to work with... Mmmm... Skyrim?

They have been wise to tell you Liam, they probably want to avoid another "Total War: Rome vs Bioshock Infinite" incident. :)

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?
12 Mar 2015 at 11:44 pm UTC

I'm a Linux user and a Gamer. Don't know which one is the most important.

I was in and out with Linux since 2008 (trying, deleting, reinstalling, so on...). Then I started to seriously dualboot after the release of Ubuntu 10.04 and I completely dropped Windows after the release of Ubuntu 12.04. I'm using wine for games that have no acceptable replacements on Linux (MMORPGs and World of Tanks). Anyway, these are games that I play occasionnaly and 90% of my gaming is on Linux.

For the Blu-ray rip problem, it might not be a solution, but I use K3B to rip my DVDs (I keep them on a network drive for streaming everywhere at home). It is supposed to Rip Blu-ray too but I can't confirm, I never had the chance to try (no blu-ray drives on my pcs). It's just a suggestion, if anyone knows or wants to try it...

This said, going back to Windows is a no-go. I'd miss too many Ubuntu features that are important to me:
Switching and customizing the desktops at will and apps like K3B, Amarok and Kodi (that is much slower on Windows) to name a few and I didn't mention the amazing community that is ready and willing to help.

Yeah... I think I'm a Linux user. Gaming is the icing on the cake. :)

Not in the topic, but I just bought a Roccat Kova+ (50$)... It's just awesome!

Shadow Of Mordor Wins GDC Game Of The Year, Linux Version Due This Spring

Quoting: lucinos999 linux games on steam now!
Where did you get your number? Steamdb says 951 (working), Steamstore has less than 999 (some games are not available anymore, did you count them?).
SteamDB LInux [External Link]
Linux games are 900+ no question, so we'll hit 1000 soon (fairly early this year).
And of course also in games the quality counts not the quantity!
I don't know why but Steamdb has many working games in unconfirmed state. That may explain the difference.

Shadow of Mordor will be mine!
