PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 devs battling "AI slop code pull requests"

Quoting: awfulsauceIt appears one of my worst fears when it comes to FOSS and AI is coming into fruition.
AI makes a lot of wannabe developers lazier because they don't try to understand what results they're getting from it and think that's the be all end all to solving the problem.

Further expanded AMD HDMI 2.1 support is coming to Linux now with FRL and DSC

Quoting: tpauIt is incredible that this development still relies on files exchanged over e-mail.
Even worse is that these mailinglists are publicly archived with full names and e-mail-adresses.
Why not keep that to those that subscribed and not let harvesters access them?
Where are the gitlabs and githubs and modern infrastructure? ;)
If a process has been working for this long, why change it? Besides, emails are still a good way to leave paper trails in case anyone wants to go back to see what conversations have been going on during the development process. Using modern infrastructure doesn't guarantee that every conversation will be available forever because all of it can go away if no backup (or the backup got deleted) was done to preserve it in the event the repository or other modern tools ceased to exist.

Dusk is a reverse-engineered reimplementation of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

It's great that this decompilation project is able to make Twilight Princess work natively on PC and Nintendo doesn't have any legal means to sue or take down the project because they're not distributing any copyright material other than the tools to make it work, provided that you have your own copy of the game.

Humble Choice for May 2026 has Diablo IV, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance and more
8 May 2026 at 4:48 am UTC

Out of all the Humble Choice bundles that they've released, this one got me subscribe for the first time because of Diablo IV, Shin Megumi Tensei V and the rest of the games minus Crysis 3 Remastered since it was the only one I already owned previously.

Proton Experimental and Proton 11 Beta updated to fix issues with the EA App
30 Apr 2026 at 4:50 am UTC

Quoting: PhlebiacThey have to make fixes for the EA App quite regularly. It's almost like EA is going out of their way to break it.
This is the same cat and mouse game that Valve has been dealing with since the release of the Steam Deck and it looks like nothing has changed after all this time.

The popular ZSNES emulator returns as SUPER ZSNES with enhanced features
30 Apr 2026 at 4:45 am UTC

It's been a long time since I've heard of ZSNES and I'm glad that the original developers are back with Super ZSNES. When I get some time, I might fire up this emulator to see if some of the games I backed up from my own collection works with it.

More Square Enix titles arrive on GOG with multiple titles from the SaGa series
24 Apr 2026 at 4:28 am UTC

Quoting: TevurSome kind of remakes/ports of the first SaGa games (aka Final Fantasy Legend) would be great. Really liked their simple but uncommon gameplay
Good luck getting Square Enix to remake the first SaGa game when they rather just sell you something like COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND instead.

Only 2 years after release Star Trek: Resurgence is being delisted

Quoting: Linux_RocksParamount's new owners are even worse than the old ones too. So I'm not expecting anything to get any better either.
Once the merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery is complete, the new owner is going to be David Ellison, son of Larry Ellison. His dad put money into Trump's campaign and is friends with him, which should make it easy to approve once it goes through the usual merger routine.

After the merger, it's going to get worse with the amount of debt they'll be carrying to the tune of about $80 billion. Before you know it, a lot of heads are going to roll just like any other merger because they'll need to find ways to pay that back.

Book of Travels from Might and Delight goes offline in July but you'll still be able to play alone

Quoting: nullzeroUnrelated, will this be the same fate as Nightingale? (see some recurring patterns here)
I don't think so because Nightingale just got an update two months ago and seems to be ongoing.

The US Patent Office have rejected a Nintendo Pokemon patent for summoning subcharacters
2 Apr 2026 at 2:10 pm UTC Likes: 5

I'm glad that the US Patent Office made themselves useful here to reject this Nintendo patent and I hope the appeals from Nintendo fail because this mechanic has been used in other games for a long time but Palworld got caught in their crosshairs.
