AMD fan here. Yet, IMHO it turned out as expected.
You can't match DLSS without an AI/ML approach.
And it unfortunately shows in these videos.
The parts with FSR simply don't look as good.
This doesn't mean it's not good for anything.
In particular, as it is available across manufacturers
and a large variety of GPU models.
But it did not kill DLSS imho.
Nvidia has two game changers for gaming platforms on their side.
ARM (see Apple's M1 performance and efficiency) and DLSS.
In the long run it might get much harder again for AMD
when it comes to gaming and consoles.
Good for AMD that the current gen platforms have just been released.
I'm 100 % sure, were they still in the concept phase,
it would've been an instant design win for Nvidia.

But, indeed, he seems to outright hate his former employer Valve.
Judging from his tweets I wouldn't blame Valve, though.

Quoting: dubigrasuRichard Geldreich, that guy has a huge chip on his shoulder about Valve, I don't believe a word he's saying. Of course he's siding with Epic. This guy sounds over the top in many regards.

Just played through Portal 1+2 again 2 weeks ago.
It's so smooth on Linux (AMD OSS), fast and no artifacts.
Not sure why this work seemed useful to Valve.
Maybe for MacOS support without OpenGL through MoltenVK
DX9 --DXVK--> Vulkan --MoltenVK--> Metal
Oh my. :D

What I'd really like to see is an HLE-emulator/wrapper in DOSBox for old DOS VR games of the 90's like the Forte VFX1, which supported Magic Carpet 1+2, Dark Forces and some more classics!
The German Wikipedia article has a list of the supported games
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_VFX1 [External Link]
The VFX1 VR headset came with an ISA card and requires a ribbon cable connected to the VESA-Feature-Connector port on the graphics card. Additionally, some controller device named cyber puck came with it.
I have no reverse-engineering experience so not sure I could do this, but some resources say,
the data streamed to the feature connector port is some interlaced quad-buffered-stereo format.
Nothing too exotic.
So it probably isn't too difficult to fake the presence of the VFX1-interface card, emulated the cyber-puck control stream and pass the transformed screen data to OpenVR or some other API supporting the new VR headsets.
To my knowledge so far no one attempted do this and I really wonder why?
Anyone else thinks this would be a great thing? :)
