Nvidia GPU-Accelerated PhysX Now Available On Linux

It's the vendor lock-in coming with PhysX and CUDA.
This has prefectly nothing to do with it being closed source.

Quoting: DeformalI like complaining and mentions like: "O, this is closed source, we do not need it!"Again, the problem is not closed source vs. open source in this case.
So what the problem? You may ignore buying games with PhysX. And even more, you can ignore all selling games, because almost all of games are closed source.

Pursuing vendor lock-ins (like PhysX and CUDA) does not go very well with the philosophy of Linux.
Supporting them is not a manifestation of freedom as it may seem to some of you, but quite the contrary in the mid/long term.

Borderlands 2 Released For Linux With A Sale

Same machine.
Performance is stellar.
Really, even with a resolution as high as 1920x1200,
16x anisotropic filtering and high details it runs PERFECTLY smooth.
A difference like day and night.
So this machine is, in principle, more than capable of running Borderlands 2.
The port seems to be in a really bad shape for my configuration.

Quoting: GuestOk, I simply installed Borderlands 2 on Windows 7.Quoting: subMy CPU is several years old. It's a Phenom II 940 BE.Yes it is. This game is single-threaded (or at least uses only 100% of one core on my Core i3), which is why with nvidia hardware it’s better to set __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1.
Never had severe performance issues, but could it be that game
(or this port in particular) relies on a very fast CPU?
In addition I also had to lower several graphical options (including disabling vsync) to come close to 60 fps on my GTX660.

You got me.
Since I played the free of charge YHTWTG and liked it,
I bought SWTG on Saturday to support the developer.
After beating the game I have to state it's totally worth it.
The game graphics remind me of Zelda II that I played back
in the early 90's on the NES.
I also have to mention that Kyle Pittman, the developer,
is very kind* and helpful in case of issues.
[*] Though it seems he doesn't really like Linux. :D

I'm still hoping that Aspyr can boost the performance also for my system. :)

This is not the first Linux game having that "issue".
Shouldn't that all be abstracted away and available
more or less automatically by SDL?
On my Radeon HD 7950 with the newest Catalyst the performance
is indeed horrible. Even when I go to real low resolution and turn
all options to low or disable them.
I'm not complaining as Aspyr explicitly stated that at release.
However, I hope we'll see significant improvements soon.

We can safely assume those 0.1 % "raise" is close to the uncertainty bounds.
It makes no sense to interpret it as a trend.

I don't want to sound cheap, but is it worth 12 EUR?
That seems to be quite a lot for these kind of games IMHO.
