SteamOS moving from Steam Deck to more handhelds gives me hope for better anti-cheat compatibility

From how I understand it, EAC is not just userspace only but is also running the kernel code within the context of Wine pretty much unchanged.
If that's true, I imagine a dedicated Linux anti-cheat would be better than that, even if it's userspace.
I was hoping that Valve made some dedicated anti-cheat SteamWorks API for Linux and expose it to games running in Proton. This wouldn't be enough for the likes of Riot but it might convince enough for less competitive games.
But it's been a few years now. If Valve doesn't give clear directions in that space soon, we might see more weird solutions like in Delta Force. We'll probably have at least a few more chaotic years ahead of us until something gets figured out.

Well, I guess that means that we get Half-Life 3 before 2050 at least

Seems like any speculations have been pretty much confirmed.
As for potential sale numbers, I'll hope for 20-30% SteamOS. This would be high enough for other manufacturers to consider while also not being too overly optimistic.
Also if SteamOS handhelds are getting popular enough, it would allow Valve to push back a release for a Steam Deck 2. Given the performance demands for new titles, they would need to release a new one around 2026 to keep up, I imagine. But if other handhelds satisfy that demand, they could take their time without hurting SteamOS adoption.

Multiplayer games will lower sales but I think it's a necessary step anyway. Some people will buy it despite this limitation and it will ever so slightly push market share.
Not to mention it will have the power to actually run demanding multiplayer games. I think that's a big reason why the Steam Deck isn't much considered for official support.

There has no doubt been a compromise to get all the inputs on the controller but I trust that they did enough testing on it.
I doubt they would release something like that if it weren't comfortable for at least 95% of testers. So even if the sticks look quite far away, it's probably going to be fine.
So excited for this. I might've considered the Hori controller when they sell them in Europe (assuming) but now I will wait for whenever this comes out. This has been enough confirmation of its existence for me.

Jedi: Survivor got low enough for me to finally get it. Also helps that they didn't get rid of the bundle (which they seemed to do often during sales) which makes it slightly cheaper on top of that.
Other than that, I'm probably good.

Provided the Steam Deck 2 has enough CPU power, I could see a eGPU solution quite possible. Might be an interesting option for people and a dedicated controller would be needed then.
Or making a second variant alongside the VR stuff is cheap enough to just go ahead with it. Would make people happy.
I also hope the VR controllers can be used by itself. Wiimote + Nunchuck have been the most comfortable control scheme I ever used. Just the fact you can keep your arms in whatever position you want is really nice. I'm a bit disappointed that there are so few options for this setup, the tiny joycons being the most common ones.

Hopefully RDNA 4 improves on that front because the gap is really large here.

Quoting: PhlebiacYou can run it on AMD but performance is terrible. Full path tracing is just that heavy. Combined with a worse upscaling solution and it's just not worth it, even on a RX 7900 XTX.Quoting: GOL_USERbe nice to have a better updated version that all can play instead of a limited upgraded version only green team can play.Have they said anywhere that it will require an Nvidia card? If I remember correctly, Quake2 RTX initially did (because nothing else supported ray-tracing at the time), but now you can run it on any GPU.

I was always a bit disappointed that the developer commentaries started with episode 1 given how interesting it would be for this game. So that's a nice surprise.
A graphical comparison between this and Half-Life 2 Update could be interesting. It seems they did quite a lot of tweaks and improvements.
