Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer - Part 7: The Arena Eternal

Quoting: pete910This brings back some memories

For me it was ut99 and Q3A , Them where the days......

Used to have some epic times in at lan parties with mates.
Ah, those were the days when the UT games actually came with linux support (even if you had to download the installer afterward). That all changed with UT3, which got delayed and delayed and finally Icculus said it wasn't going to happen because of middle-ware. Sad days. So Epic HAD a history of supporting Linux, they just bailed on it, and even though other games could have been released on it, they have not been...

I've been hankering for finding Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 for Linux, but haven't managed to locate it. I do have Heavy Gear 2 and some of the other Loki releases. Also have most (all?) of the LGP releases.
Indeed, I remember looking all over for the UT2004 linux installer only to find it on the disc

I had LGP's port of x3:reunion back in the day, Damn I put some hours into that. IIRC they had demos you could try of there various games.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Its a bit merky as here in the UK you have a legal right to refund if something is not of mercentable quality ie a game that doesnt work is not fit for purpose so under consumer rights act you can get a refund regardless of valve of game dev position on it.
I cannot imagine this would apply here. The "purpose" is running under Windows, the rest is your problem.
No its not because it doesnt matter the purpose of the game is to be played if you cant then its not fit for purpose
:dizzy:

Of course it is ! That's akin to putting petrol in your diesel car then complaining to trading standards that it dont work!
Not arguing am saying its the law
There is no arguing as you are wrong! , there is no law to back you if you do not use the purchased item as the manufacturer intended!

To me the translation of the statement is:

"It's not going to happen."

Looks like Valve sent out quite a lot of Steam Deck developer kits

Quoting: CorbenFor me the first game to try is probably Everspace 2!
What a surprise, hm?
ERESY!!!
Everspace 2 deserves a BIG *VA monitor with deep blacks in a dark room and why not, ambilight/like leds on his back.
OLED !

Shame we don't have HDR though.

Quoting: Sojiro84It's a shame they share their video's on twitter.

Their streaming capability is garbage and all I see is 240p resolution video with plenty of compression artifacts because of the video compression.

And Twitter takes forever to load the higher quality but by then it's too late and I already reached the end of the video.

But it IS good to see developers playing around with it.
Indeed, Are hope is they could technically tweak as all the Decks will be the same hardware like they do for consoles. Would also be good for us AMD folk on desktop to boot

Quoting: EggbagI don't have many Steam games in my library to be honest, but once I get it I want to see how Battlefield games run lol. Of course I'll also be using RetroArch
It would have been nice to see the likes of the Dice devs ect messing with one, We could have at least some hope of the big boys seriously thinking about SD/Linux support.

BattlEye confirms Linux support for Steam Deck, will be opt-in like Easy Anti-Cheat

Quoting: scaineYeah, quite a few games have native EAC, such as 7 Days to Die. The problem has only ever been a) lack of native titles, which is compounded by b) lack of anti-cheat support via Proton.

This fixes b) finally.

Doubt it'll do much to help a) though, I'm afraid.
Indeed, Unfortunately it still means no buy from me.

Quoting: pete910Not interested in wine/proton support tbh, Would be more interested in more native games being shipped now that EAC/BE supports Linux. (I'm looking at the likes of you NWI)

Or is the support only through Wine ?
EAC and BattleEye have had native Linux support for a while. This was just to add support for them through Proton for Wine.
I knew battle eye did , didn't think EAC did though.
