Wonder if them using the Source engine helped with the proper SC integration. Still, great news altogether - hope more games follow the example.
Some thoughts on the Asus 4K PB287Q 28 inch monitor, with added radiation alarm

I thought long and hard about when I bought a new monitor a couple of months back but I ended up with a 1440p IPS. While 4K would surely look amazing - 32 and bigger monitors are still to expensive and anything below that is just too small; a lot of programs scale terribly; even my 4790k with 2x290x cannot handle a game like the Witcher III at 4K. However, I think a single card solution for 4K may be closer than we think. Some people suggest Pascal and Arctic Islands could be a giant leap.

Maybe it's a good solution for something like a Steam Machine. After all that is the console approach - cut down all the OS clutter to improve performance. After all, don't forget that Valve's concern is with Steam OS, the rest of the distros just happen to benefit from their effort. If they could boost game performance on Steam OS they'd do it in a heartbeat regardless how and if that affects Ubuntu or Fedora.

Quoting: HoriHaven't played it, to be honest, but a quick Google search shows that even on Windows it drops below 30fps on most cards if you crank everything up on 11. Still, what Mike at Phoronix found was just unacceptable. The Linux performance is crappy for an alpha release, let alone a supposedly finished product. Devs should learn from GTAV - delay it twice if you have to, but put out a polished product. Gamers will be grateful.Quoting: maodzedunI only played Rome 1 and Medievel 2 but I think I agree. I tried Shogun 2 as one of the first games when I bought my laptop and it was unplayable (under Windows) and it was a really expensive laptop. Most games ran very well, except for that one. I didn't even bother trying Rome 2.Quoting: lvlarkApparently it doesn't perform much better under Windows, so it's probably going to get performance patches. How much those will affect the Linux version remains to be seen. The series is notoriously sluggish, but judging from Phoronix's tests it's almost unplayable on Linux. I'd recommend people to abstain from buying it for now.
Rome 1 and Medieval 2 ran exceptionally well on my very old desktop PC. Yes, I know they are old games but the PC was even older and medium budget
I think they got lazy after those...
Also tried Empire on Linux and it was pretty laggy. But I only tried it for a brief moment, haven't even got to messing with the settings too much. Maybe it's fixable, I can't really say... I hope it is, because I want to play it someday. I also don't know how it performs on Windows so I can't compare it

Daaaamn, I'm impressed. Honestly - if they had a proper GUI for the RadeonSI nobody would bother with Catalyst/Crimson. I for example have an Xfire setup - I need to be able to easily control clock speeds and fan profiles. Although to be honest the latter is done through third party software in Windows, as well, so I'm not holding it too much against them. However frame pacing, triple buffering, fps limiter - etc. Those are features I sorely miss when I use the OS driver.
