SteamOS-like Linux distribution GamerOS has a new release, adds in Epic Game Store support

Ah, now we're talking. I know purists will be thoroughly pissed, but I'm plenty happy to see something like this. Market is fragmented (which is actually a good thing IMO, but I know a lot will disagree), which is why I love GOG Galaxy 2.0 on Windows. But having a Linux distro for TV that supports both Steam and Epic - now that's something else entirely. Wasn't particularly interested in GamerOS (that name IS stupid), but now I'll keep a close eye. Good job. PC gaming in general has been needing a much better living room experience.

elementary OS 6 set for a big overhaul, adding system-wide Flatpak support

I've tried to like Elementary OS over the years but it just doesn't click for me. Also, Manjaro and Solus look better, IMO.

Quoting: Perkeleen_VittupääOne of the biggest challenges for seasoned Linux users is to place oneself in the shoes of a new comer that's also a Windows refugee. What is "simple, handy and easy" (*just a few commands on the terminal*) for us, might be a set of total deal breakers for a "normo" to start with
Had a friend back in the day, who didn't even like GUI. He was convinced everybody had to just learn to use the terminal (and obviously hated Windows). I once asked him: "What about some secretary in an office?", "Yes!!!". And meant it. I think a lot of people in the Linux community do not realize that " just one command" in the terminal is already too much for most people. And honestly - you can't be mad at somebody for not wanting to go out of his way when he doesn't have to.

Anyway - cool tool :D

Arch Conf 2020 confirmed for October, has a talk on the SteamOS-like GamerOS

The problem is that this is tied to Steam. I'd love a more store agnostic experience - something like a big screen Lutris that can also work with Epic, Uplay, Origin (I think they are renaming that to EA Play) and GOG. Because, otherwise, what is the fundamental difference with setting Steam to start in Big Picture Mode at boot?

NVIDIA GeForce NOW adds Chromebook support, so you can run it on Linux too

Once again, I read the comments on something "controversial" like cloud gaming and remember why we can't have nice things on Linux...

Designed for big-screen TV gaming, the SteamOS-like 'GamerOS' has a new release

I always considered SteamOS doomed. Also what is the point when ypy vsn just boot in Steam at startup. I'd be way more excited for a TV friendly Lutris or similar software.

yeah, we know who did shit back then, lol.

just kidding but we never know...
An internal memo was leaked which shows that he apparently did quit over personal reasons. Sometimes there is nothing to it. Hope everything with him and his family is ok and he just wants to spend more time with them. Pretty sure he should have enough money to retire should he wish it (though he's probably just taking a break).

One notable game you missed is Old World. That game was literally saved by Epic (as per the developers own account). I know it's not on Linux for now, but I'm positive it will at least work with Proton. Might was well try running it when I get a bit more free time. Picked it up a couple of days ago during their sale and WOW - this is the Civ game I've always wanted. I do hope they might port it natively at some point (though it seems unlikely).

Linux Mint 20 "Ulyana" due in June with fractional HiDPI scaling, brighter icons and better performance

Love Mint but I really wish they'd make a proper rolling release, something like Solus, which is my current Linux installation. But that's more of an inherent problem to Ubuntu/Debian. Still, one of the best Linux distros, though.
