Quoting: PenglingWell, at least this one doesn't involve having to watch 3.5 hours of what's clearly the Dorito Pope [External Link]'s childhood imaginings of what a legitimate gaming awards-ceremony would look like, made real now he has the money to do so. :tongue:That’s a great article. It used to be even greater before EG had to edit it, but it’s still possible to find the info it contained elsewhere. Very eye opening.
System76 give everything you need with the Launch Heavy keyboard

Valve must be a million times bigger than S76 with huge cash reserves, yet even they started out small with their hardware endeavours: a controller and Steam Link. They partnered up with someone else for the Vive and only then moved on to something more serious and it all took them many years.
Designing and making hardware is really, really difficult. They need to get their feet wet with things like desktop cases and keyboards before moving on to something like a laptop, with moving parts and the durability required of something you carry around in a backpack and sometimes drop.
Plus, they make their stuff in their workshop, which makes it all very expensive. I suspect they're nowhere near the size to be able to contract an Asian manufacturer to get cheap mass production and economies of scale.

Quoting: sarmadIf only System76 focuses on what the company was established for, which is building Linux laptops. They still don't offer laptops that aren't just a re-brand. They still don't have any laptop with AMD or Intel dGPU. They still don't have a laptop with a build quality that matches the likes of high end laptops. Instead of focusing on these areas, which is their core business, they are now spending their efforts on keyboards and PopOS. There are plenty of keyboards, planety of distros, and plenty of desktop environments that you can easy find elsewhere. What the Linux community needs is better laptop options. While all of this is technically true, you're completely ignoring the realities of life and business.

Quoting: itscalledrealityCongrats, but what were the qualifications?Hmmm, I think you’re confusing „best” with „fastest” there. And the Playdate is a very interesting device.
What were the other candidates?
A Playdate?
The Steam Deck has some nice hardware but is in no way a bleeding edge device. Heck it has a semi-weak screen just to keep costs down.
EDIT:
Oh I see it was a public vote, lame.
And for those curious here’s what it was up against (it beat out a PS5 harddrive lol):
Best Gaming Hardware
Playdate
Steam Deck (WINNER)
Analogue Pocket
Backbone One: PlayStation Edition
Roccat Kone XP
WD_Black SN850 NVMe SSD for PS5
Fedora Linux 37 is out now with official Raspberry Pi 4 support

My upgrade 2 days ago went well, if that helps any. :-) After the previous Gnome version I thought it couldn't get any more like macOS, but I was wrong and it's now ripping Apple off 99% instead of the 98% from 6 months ago. Not that I'm complaining, I like the barebonesness of both it and macOS.
I'm still not as familiar with Fedora as I am with the apt-based systems I've been using for years, but I'm getting there and the new knowledge and experience can only do me good.

This is lovely, though the price is quite something else.
Thunderbolt comes with Intel only, another recent trend that doesn't seem to change. Upgrading the CPU to something worthwhile carries a hefty premium, too.
I'll totally take the 4K screen over the 2560 one. The former will be fine with 2x scaling, the latter will require fractional, which is too annoying to use still.
It's really a shame the UK is outside the EU now, this will make importing it much more complicated (and potentially costly if customs get their hands on it) than it should be.

Such a great game!

As a rule, I'm not so keen on the begging. As these things go, usually there's a huge outcry which gives the game publisher unreasonable expectations and then support is dropped a couple of years later because actual players never materialise.
It only serves to reinforce the general opinion that Linux isn't worth investing in. I hope I'm wrong.
