Paradox have released a big free update for Europa Universalis IV, fix included for Linux
18 Sep 2019 at 7:21 pm UTC Likes: 1

Whatever the intent behind the launcher, most of these issues EUIV is experiencing have been around since the launcher was included with Imperator at release. That Paradox have expanded the launcher to EUIV without fixing those or properly testing beforehand is pretty appalling.

The E3 2019 Linux gaming round-up

I had a brief chat on Twitter with Shams, the Paradox business chap and asked about their complete lack of Linux support on recent non-PDS developed titles. He's made it clear that Linux no longer has any business support in Paradox, which is really sad as they've been one of our biggest supporters as a publisher and developer. I also asked Ebba, their CEO, and she confirmed no Linux support for the new titles i.e. Vampire, Planetfall, Empire of Sin. I assume that as long as they're on the current Clausewitz engine we will see the current and future in-house PDS developer games still come to Linux, but that could still be dropped for future games as well, and if they move to a new engine version we should expect to lose any support for their new in-house titles.

Shams was the one who pushed for Linux internally at PDX and wanted it to succeed, so I doubt it was an easy decision, but he is a businessman. He did say they they always examine possibilities so they may revisit this in the future, but it seems we have lost one of our longest and strongest larger supporters.

Stellaris: Apocalypse is due soon & there's a new overview video up, also a note about Linux sales

Paradox also bought White Wolf Publishing recently. They keep mentioning a number of secret games under development, with at least one being announced at PDX Con in May. They were working on a Norse RPG a while back which looked great but was cancelled as they couldn't get the tactical combat to be any fun. I'm hoping May is the Victoria III announcement but it could also include a White Wolf game either then or soon.

Quoting: liamdaweWell Cities Skylines is made by Colossal Order Ltd. and it's only published by Paradox Interactive (again, not be confused with the Paradox studio). A lot of times, the developer can be the one making the platform decisions, not the publisher.

In the case of Cities, it's a Unity game, so they didn't exactly need to re-work tons of Linux.
I believe it's even more confusing, if I remember the podcast details correctly, as Cities Skylines is developed by Colossal Order, and published by Paradox Interactive, but Paradox actually owns the intellectual property to Cities.

Paradox likes to retain IP where possible and approaches developers directly to work for them if they think they have the right capabilities for an idea. I think it was Cities where this happened. Not sure on Surviving Mars or Battletech.

Starmancer, a space station sim inspired by Dwarf Fortress will have Linux support, looks awesome

Did they make Star Command? The graphical style is nearly identical. And Star Command was room based, and in the Starmancer blurb they mention working to sort the game from room based to tile based.

Star Traders: Frontiers released into Early Access, here’s a few thoughts
16 Nov 2017 at 8:41 am UTC

It is still in Early Access. I've played Trese Brothers games on Android and Linux for a long time and they are simply the most committed Devs I have ever come across. Bug reports and queries are usually answered within a few hours, often with a fix already worked out and being deployed. Rarely have I had to wait longer than 24 hours. If you have feedback or bugs I highly recommend letting either Cory or Andrew know as they will take it on board. I can't wait to see where they take ST:F.

Steam Hardware Weekend sale, bag some cheap kit, Steam Controller now has accessories
30 Sep 2016 at 3:51 am UTC

My local GAME store has been selling them and did a bundle which was reasonably well priced and actually cheaper than getting direct from Valve once you took postage into account. They seemed to sell well too as my attempts to buy there kept being foiled by either the controller or link being out of stock and the staff confirmed that the devices kept selling out.

I popped in the other day though and they have bumped the prices up to £100 per item! You can buy a whole console for not much more than that. If you want to guarantee that you kill demand for something, there's nothing like jacking the price up to an insane value...

New Linux & SteamOS gamer survey for March
1 Mar 2016 at 1:45 pm UTC

Interestingly, I got the survey on Linux after I briefly used my old Windows 7 disc to install it along with Steam to test something. After I purged it with fire and booted back into Linux, I immediately got the Steam survey, which I haven't seen in about 2-3 years of use under Linux only.

Sunless Sea looks like it may get an official Linux build, game looks creepy & awesome

Very, very pleased with this. I emailed them a while back asking about future Linux plans as I wanted to buy it but had been burned too often with promises of support which went nowhere. I believe it is built with Unity and already runs under MAC so seemed odd that it wasn't ported to Linux too. Looking forward to picking it up when it releases.
