One thing I have noticed with this update is if you are getting big stutters in infinite and on AMD desktop make sure Resizable BAR aka Smart access memory is enabled in your bios if your motherboard supports it.. hardly any stutters for me once shaders are cached.. without it stutters like crazy

To get this to work at all on Fedora need to enable the telometto/mesa-git copr repo.. should follow the instructions on the copr page for it. game pretty unplayable atm though for me due to the audio issues.. Most likely going to install EndeavorOS and see how it works on Arch. Infinite is about the only reason I ever boot into windows so would be great to not have to boot windows to play it

Quoting: slaapliedjeWell thunderbolt doesn't mean much anymore with USB4 coming on devices now as a few AMD laptops with USB4 now and eGPUs work on them now and a bunch of thunderbolt devices. at some point USB4 will come to AMD's other devices so maybe a future deck will have it also.Quoting: ElectricPrismThis talk of VR makes me curious. It would make a great Linux video to learn if someone using a dGPU over USB could theoretically run VR.Here is where things get tricky/annoying...
Obviously the software stack is fine for it.
I believe (not sure if this is the exact reason) that AMD doesn't have a license to use Thunderbolt, which is why it's so rare to find an AMD based system with TB. If the Steam Deck had a TB3/4 port on it, using a external GPU would definitely be an option. Not only that we could get a very cool dock that'd boost it's power in a similar fashion to how the Switch actually works.
Now step into bizzarro land; people have connected nvidia cards to the Atari VCS via a pcie -> NVME/SATA bridge. Something similar should be possible on the Steam Deck.

Quoting: Gueststill doesn't matter because regardless of drm or not if you don't have all your games downloaded you still lose them. and to be frank the likely hood of some of these companies going out is pretty low and if you are referring to Steam they have said a many times they would work to let you get your games and they continue to work if they did go under. so my point is why fight to give companies your money that don't want to support linux and actively fight it.. yea Valve deserves our money more so then GOGQuoting: tohurThe other thing is why would you want to give your money to a company which can shutdown their servers overnight and you lose all of your rented games? On gog I can buy the games and download them to my hdd and if gog goes bankrupt I still have access to the stuff I paid for and can install and play all the games (even if gog is long gone).Quoting: Guestwhy would you want to give anyone your money that lacks the care in the world about you. they don't want your money so why fight to give it to them thats insanityQuoting: Mountain ManIt should be obvious by now that GoG simply doesn't care if Linux users buy from them or not.I know but I can always hope.

Quoting: GuppyAnd again Ubuntu is FAR behind rolling releases.. I have used wayland just fine on EOS (Arch) and other rolling releases like Opensuse Tumbleweed and such but still use X cause of synergyQuoting: tohur"just fine" migth be stretching it - It was my understanding that Ubuntu omitted it last minute because of issues with nvidia ( some minor detail like having no desktop ;) )Quoting: GuppyExciting news :Dwayland works just fine in GNOME and KDE for Nvidia on most rolling releases.. if you guys are on Mint or Ubuntu based distros you will be waiting til the next release or two so 6 months to a year?
Quoting: melkemindSo, this works on X? I thought Wayland support was still incomplete for Nvidia.yeah that was also my understanding, but hopefully I'm just mis informed
