Quoting: CerberonEuropeans continue to hurt themselves in hopes of hurting Russia. So did the UK and France when they declared war on Nazi Germany. Doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do. For the exact same reasons. It's the nature of war that whatever you're doing, it's also hurting yourself. In the case of the sanctions, sure they will hurt the West, too. As long as it hurts Russia more (and it does), it's still a strategic win.

Quoting: etamI think that selling this DLC and giving a cut from income to some good charity would be also an acceptable solution.Even if they did that and donated 100% of the proceedings to charity, I think pretty much nobody outsides of Russia wants to touch Russian-themed content with the proverbial 10-foot pole right now. It wouldn't really sell well anyway.

It's the right call. Unfortunately, in this case, there was no unpolitical decision available. It's a shame that they blew so much money on making a product they in all likelihood will never be able to sell before it is horribly outdated. The time it will take for Russia to be an accepted member of the international community again will be measured in decades, not years...

I don't do social media, but any single individual controlling any large media is always concerning.
Then again, that's true for most mainstream media not called BBC. "Free speech" usually translates to the opinion of whoever owns it.

I'd also be curious to see the reaction of people who go "Gah, Linux is SOOOO hard to install", when they have to install Windows from scratch for the first time in their life! :D

Quoting: BoldosWould be curious to see the numbers of how many will actually use it...I'd really be curious how many people bother putting work in to replace a working OS with another, which is always one of the strongest points being made against Linux on the desktop: "Why replace a working Windows?". Now it's "Why replace a working Linux?".

I said it in the thread about Fortnite, and I will say the same thing here: Developers assuming that the operating system is NOT under the full control of its user and that they can somehow control their system from the outside have no clue about good security practices. No wonder that their stuff gets hacked all the time, because that approach doesn't even work on closed-source systems.

Not surprised. Porting has been going downhill for years now, after Steam Machines turned out to be a bust and larger studios no longer bought in to the idea. We have seen fewer and fewer native ports of games that weren't made by Indie studios.
I know, some people are still clinging to the "No Tux, No Bux" mantra, but in reality, we're unlikely to see another major AAA game on Linux native anytime soon. If the Deck becomes a major hit, maybe this will change again, who knows. In the meantime, Proton is what we've got, and it does the job just fine. Instead of a handful of AAA titles that got selected to be ported, we get to play almost all of them. I don't care what makes a game run on Linux as long as it runs on Linux.
