I played American Truck Simulator on Linux, don't ever let me drive a real truck
8 Mar 2016 at 2:46 pm UTC

This seems to be done quite well, then, although I'm still not very interested in racing/driving games..
The wording on the title was a bit confusing though, I thought you meant the game never allowed you to drive a real truck (but maybe only vans or something).

Also, just out of curiosity, what's the added value of ATS over ETS? Is it mainly so that Americans can ride in more familiar lands, or do the traffic/roads/trucks differ enough for people to want to have both? Or are there different features? Could be thrilling to be able to drive ice roads..

Quoting: fakk2This page is my #1 stop for info on linux gaming. Keep up the good work.
This is what it's like for me. The only kind of gaming that interests me is Linux gaming.

Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to pledge, but I hope this works out for you! I think you deserve it, quality work you're delivering. (Too many journalists out there that don't know their stuff. Both inside and outside of technology.)

What game would you most like to see on Linux this year?

Our Linux & SteamOS gamer survey results for January 2016

Quoting: TheBossVery good comment, I will see what I can do. I also think the distro-hopping question really isn't needed at all for a gaming focused survey.
Things like distro, DE, which CPU etc, could maybe go on rotation? I think it's quite useful to see that a healthy chunk of people do gaming using, for instance, Fedora, when you're considering to try another distro. Similar for DE's, this survey can be a nice place to pick candidates.

Other than that, some more gaming-focussed questions could be useful, like which genre people are interested in, what kind of features they like/miss.

RuneScape working on a brand new OpenGL engine, Linux support to be official
18 Feb 2016 at 5:13 pm UTC

Compilation is pretty fast on our Linux build system, so it was nice to add it as a pre-step to the somewhat more time-consuming builds for Windows and Mac.
I smiled at this. While they might not go as far as 'develop on Linux, then export to Windows and Mac', it'll at least mean that the Linux version won't lag behind as much in terms of stability.

Another AMD blog post on Vulkan, this time with info about multithreading
18 Feb 2016 at 1:33 pm UTC Likes: 1

All of this 'Vulkan can give more performance, if devs put in more time' is probably good for pre-built engines like Unity, Frostbite, Unreal, etc. because they have the resources to really optimise things, whereas smaller teams can't. Hence, OpenGL will continue to be relevant if you don't want to use someone else's engine for some reason.

Quoting: maodzedunSomebody more knowledgeable than me, correct me, but I thought a large part of the AMD performance problems on Linux were CPU bound. As in the card is artificially bottlenecked on a single core instead of using them all. If that is the case Vulkan can finally solve that problem (for Vulkan games obviously).
Afaik one of the main points of Mantle was to reduce CPU overhead.

AMD state they will support Vulkan on Linux in an upcoming amdgpu driver, not ready yet
16 Feb 2016 at 10:53 pm UTC

It's a missed chance, for sure. But there isn't much use for a Vulkan-capable driver yet anyway. I'm not sure AMD will be on time here, though.
For me, personally, all that matters is if they'll be able to get it in in time for my next GPU. Which is autumn at the very soonest.

Batman: Arkham Knight for Linux & SteamOS cancelled

Quoting: pete910Here's a thought, maybe they was worried that feral may do a good job thus make the window/team look bad and linux/steamos look good :D
While I doubt it, that fear would probably have been proven right.. ;)

I don't really find the current graphs hard to read or anything. Three things though:
+1 for round numbers on the y-axis (2,4,7,9% doesn't make sense at all, even more so when the distances between the bars are the same, yet are rounded to different numbers)
-1 for always going up to 100% - blank space above the highest value is a waste.
Also, maybe reformat the months to look like:
okt nov dec jan
15 15 15 16

Albion Online update Brutus sounds like it will be rather good

Quoting: KelsMore PvE is a good thing. Lore would be good too, hope they put more of that in once the mechanics are solid.
It needs more of everything. I am sure they know this, which is why the main release was delayed.
Can't say everything, with as little of the game I've seen yet. Right now I mostly miss story/lore though.
