Quoting: Purple Library GuyGIMP is a lot better than it used to be to the point that I think it's a viable alternative to Photoshop, assuming you don't rely on some of Photoshop's proprietary features.Quoting: Mountain ManI don't doubt that the GIMP is really good. But at the professional level it seems image fiddling is dominated by various proprietary schemes which the GIMP can't pay to use--or at least, that's how it was for a number of crucial years in the early evolution of Linux. And certain famous features of its UI (which, again, have changed rather these days) were very much of an acquired taste by all accounts. Between those things and a few others, the GIMP was just not as workable a substitute for Photoshop (to a lot of Photoshop users), as OpenOffice was for Office.Quoting: Purple Library Guy...or, hate to say it, the GIMP for Photoshop.I actually prefer the GIMP to Photoshop, although admittedly I am not a graphic design professional. When it comes to post-processing my photos, I find that it produces results just as good as anything I've done with Photoshop. Plus, you can't beat the price, especially when you consider Adobe's onerous subscription model that effectively locks your intellectual property behind a paywall.

I wonder what the difficulty is, exactly? Is it the Unity Engine itself, or did they use some proprietary middleware that is poorly/not supported for Linux?

Not surprising. This developer has been on shaky ground with Linux pretty much since the Kickstarter campaign when they reached the donation threshold for Linux support but then began hinting that they may not release a Linux version anyway. They're also cheapskates, planning a physical release of the Banner Saga Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch but using the less expensive low-capacity cartridges and forcing users to download a large portion of the product through the eshop. This is not a developer I plan to support in any way, shape, or form.

Quoting: GuestGreat news. The sad thing with this game is that it works PERFECTLY under WINE, so many Linux gamers like myself already play it and we get counted as "Windows" players.Let's hope you're in the extreme minority, otherwise you and everybody else who did the same will screw Linux with the appearance of low sales.

Here's hoping the up-front cost means you'll be able to remain competitive even without shelling out extra for card packs. Otherwise, games like this quickly turn into the worst example of "pay-to-win". See Blizzard's Hearthstone: anybody who doesn't pay will get demolished in any competitive match.

Quoting: SalvatosSure, he's covered legally. Doesn't make it honest or ethical.Quoting: Mountain ManEvery game stops getting support at some point, though. There's nothing dishonest about it. Considering this is an online game (if I'm not mistaken), I'm pretty confident their terms of service state something to the effect that they are not liable for the availability of the service at any given moment or for any specific duration. That's an inherent risk/finality to any kind of software that doesn't run fully on your own machine.Quoting: GuestHow is pulling support for a platform that people have paid good money for not a scam? Whatever "abuse" he has received for his history of unethical business practices is fully deserved.Quoting: Mountain ManAnother scam from a scam developer. I knew this game was a bad bet when they blew through their initial Kickstarter and Early Access funds in two-years with nothing to show for it and then asked customers to double-down with a second donation so they could start again from scratch. Anybody with any sense will stay far away from this trash. How exactly is it a scam ? They have simply discontinued Linux support.. but they havent taken away the existing Linux builds.
Or are you just throwing abuse at the developer, which um.. is exactly what he's complained about?

Quoting: F.UltraGary is a Windows guy, he codes on Windows and he uses only Windows. So when he sees toxic comments from Windows people he is just not seeing it but then the same comes from a Linux user then it hits his brain with "well look at that, another toxic Linux luser...".This is known as confirmation bias.
