Quoting: pete910Ya know there are DRM free games on steam too :PYes, although they are not readily labeled as such. Path of least resistance.

If you're the kind to see the thumbnail before reading the title, this post had very a different inference at quick glance.

*Disclaimer: yeah, yeah.. you can clean out WINE's trash when you're finished but only once you have the knowledge beyond some novice Mint/*buntu user (which I was at the time). Not a good first impression.

Quoting: elmapulplus wine maybe a pain in the ass to configure, no one want configure something when they have time to play, all they want is sit and play. Not to mention WINE/PoL shit all over your file system. Last I tried, they added unremovable context menus and entries all over my home folder. It's bad enough that some games do that ...but a translation layer? The only games worthy of my time are those that had the effort to support my platform.
combine that with what GoLBuzzkill said, and you will realize that from the point of view of an gamer, there is no sense in switching for linux, no advantages only disadvantages, is from the point of view of linux users that what you said matters.

Quoting: FaalagornThe funniest part is, if I'm reading it right, that they plan on support both Vulkan under Linux and DX12 under Windows. That's especially unusual, since most of the games are nowadays opting to one on another (I think the only one with actual implementation of both will be Ashes of Singularity, when Vulkan comes out). Not terribly. Look at ARK with their Vulkan/Metal/DX12 strategy. The only logical reason I can think of is that maybe these developers want their game to be thought of also as an comparative API benchmarking tool... for the free publicity.

Quoting: themixturemediaThis looks like it would and will be a great kids game. Linux needs more fun kids games just as much as adult AAA games. I would 100% buy this for my daughter I think she would love this game.Lego Minifigures Universe, which was a good example, arrived for Linux and was subsequently shut down [External Link] due to low revenue. Kids Linux games are a niche within a niche and I think most of that childrens games market is clobbered by smartphone games. I would hope these aren't doomed to the same fate.

Looking forward most to Worst Practices talk. Vulkan leaves a lot of room for screw ups and I'm eager to see just how bad it can get.

IMO AMD should have just adopted Mesa as their official driver like Intel have. We don't need the graphics driver equivalent to MIR vs Wayland vs X.
