Of all the indie futuristic racers, this one comes closest to F-ZERO. All the others seem to be trying to mimic Wipeout.
We now have an official Ballistic Overkill server

EDIT: To elaborate, CoD is basically the Mario Kart of FPS in that it levels the playing field with all sorts of BS perks and drops and killstreaks whereas Counter Strike essentially has no skill ceiling.

Quoting: WorMzyI'm curious what you think of CounterStrike: GO and TF2 then. CounterStrike was the major multiplayer shooter when I was younger, and although TF2 is more of a hat simulator these days, I hear it still has shooter and multiplayer elements."major multiplayer shooters" being code for Call of Duty. Sorry, but I consider Counter Strike to be in a different class entirely.

This site is the only reason I bought the game. Ballistic is the closest thing we have to the major multiplayer shooters.

You have really built up a wealth of resources here. I'm patiently waiting for the day a prominent company or event or press references the GOL statistics page which has been running almost long enough to show meaningful changes in trends.
Taking on the universe in Avorion, my thoughts on this new sandbox spaceship building game

Tried the demo. They have a strong foundation to build on. Avorion just needs more to do. No matter where you go at the moment, it's always some permutation of starports + asteroids + friendly/enemy vessels. I want anomalies to scan, derelict ships to salvage...

All I'm saying is that if anyone pays into a crowd funded project and expects a 100% guaranteed chance of return, that person is kind of an idiot.

Quoting: GuestNever have and never will do crowdfunding. Don't do pre-ordering either. Crowdfunding to me just makes no sense from the consumer's standpoint.Crowd funding is no place for consumers. Consumers will have to wait until after the product comes to market.

Quoting: KithopAnyone know if you're able to run dedicated servers with this for the multiplayer aspect, aka a 'persistent universe'? I've got a couple beefy rack servers running FreeBSD (with an Ubuntu Server VM) in my basement, and we're getting 150/150 fibre hooked up soon™, so this is something I'd love to host for my small group of friends. Right now it sounds like this might be another option to, say, revisiting StarMade, maybe? :)There's talk on their site of private servers but it is "AvorionServer.exe"
I'll have to keep an eye on it anyway - neat!

Sadly, from the FAQ:
Will we be able to walk around in our ships? And I would love to see any kind of character interaction/diplomacy. Crew building would complete a game like this.
No, sorry. The efforts of making explorable ship interiors are more or less the same as making an entire second game. We don't think we'd ever get that right in a way we and you would be satisfied with it. As stated above, we want to focus on the flying-around part of the game.
