Inherit the Earth blew my mind when I was a child. Got it from a cd that came with a magazine. Gosh, want to replay it now

Surprising probably no one, most people use the Steam Deck as a handheld

Seems like your plan is working.

Might be because my once super fancy desktop is very outdated by now, but the Deck has become my goto gaming device. I simply enjoy gaming with it.

Quoting: HohlraumOne metric I'd be curious about is how many people aren't using the SD controls themselves and instead opt for an external controller. I have hundreds of hours on my SD now and I'll bet I've spent less than 3 hrs total actually holding the thing. I would be perfectly happy if a tablet FF SD was released that relied entirely on external (or detachable) controls.
I own a Steam Controller, but didn't even try to connect it as I'm fully happy with the built-in controls.
While most people who have both prefer the touchpads of the first SteamController, Deck has just the better overall control package. I sometimes played with my SteamControllers and a docked Deck. Almost everytime I wished for a SteamController 2 :D

Quoting: GuestI use it in handheld all the time, but am planning on buying a dock to make desktop mode easier to use. Also desktop mode is absolute garbage for being a Linux distro, but at least it's not Manjaro.
Hopefully the KDE update in the next major SteamOS update will fix some things.
Dualboot, VMs and DistroBox also help a lot. No one can keep you from booting into your favorite distro when docked :)

SteamController2 would certainly help me use it docked more often.
Controls are what makes me use it as a handheld most of the time.

Quoting: gradyvuckovicBetween Snap, Flatpak and AppImage, I'll admit I think AppImage is my fav. Just because I love the simplicity of it.

"Here's an app, it's in a file, double click it to run it."

Beautiful simplicity. What I'd like to see is more distros improving their support for the format. Stuff like if you try to double click an AppImage file and it doesn't have executable permission, just asking the user, 'Do you want to give this AppImage file executable permission?' and stuff like a place to drag and drop AppImage files to add them to the application list.
I'm ok with the dev to decide between Flatpak and AppImage. Distros may also still decide to provide their own package, but I'm a big fan of flatpak and AppImage for any self-contained application running on top of my DE. SteamDeck only made it more necessary to have these.

Regarding integration with AppImage: For some reason, it works beautiful with my Arch-KDE System. I just double click the appimage and a GUI pops up, asking if I only want to run it once or have it integrated. This is how it should be.
Sounds like you have AppImageLauncher perhaps as I recognize the gui you are describing
Yep, seems like that. This should come with every distro, really convenient.

JSAUX teasing a clear Back Plate for the Steam Deck

Quoting: Arten- Steamdeck CAD files are under "Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Public License". This is clearly commercial usage, so they needed communication with Valve for get permission and Valve maybe came with some strings attached (material quality,...).
You raise a good point, hopefully JSAUX are smart enough to know this before putting the work in...
As far as I know, the CAD files only properly represent the outside of the device. All the little things on the inside are still up for 3rd party to measure themselves. For the backplate, this is gonna be very very important, since it's part of the cooling strategy,

Steam Deck pushed Linux to the highest share on Steam in years

Quoting: Geppeto35The climax may be reached in the next couples of years when 1/ microsoft will end its low-cost key politics to fight against piracy and 2/ if they really make the new incoming windows with yearly or monthly subscription, as they have begun with Office and as rumor says about this next windows '12'?
I'm so glad, I don't need Windows any more, even for work. :)
Yet there have been so many things Microsoft did that made us think people would migrate to Linux... it sadly never really happened. 3rd party support, MS Office and laziness...

Nickelodeon All Star Brawl is one of the games I most regret having paid full price for.
Gave it a few tries with friends during vacation and it was always super chaotic - in a bad way.
Controls were just not intuitive at all. Some went through character tutorial to learn the control scheme of their favorite character, yet it never felt good. Really sad.
