XCOM 2's multiplayer being removed but will still work on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLIt not affect native Linux version but affect Steam Deck. StemDeck prefer: "recommended_runtime: proton-stable". So multiplayer on Deck should stop working too. It's not like that can't change.

They could have prepared by shifting multiplayer to steam services, that are pretty much free for the publisher. If the game has options for community servers or LAN that can be routed, I think it would also be fair. Then freaking help to set up an open lobby.
But this game sold massive and just closing servers out of nowhere seems off.

Quoting: scaineHell, feels like XCOM2 just released. The Collection is from 08/2018 and sells for 30 bucks still. And frankly, how much server power do they need for a round-based game anyway? A game is a couple hundred messages at most.Quoting: PublicNuisanceClosing down servers when they feel like it. One more reason to support FOSS gaming. That's not really particularly fair here. Someone has to pay for multiplayer servers to run. And the core game itself remains playable here, it's only the MP elements that are going away.
I suppose one big advantage that FOSS offers is that the game could re-engineered for LAN play though. That would work with some games, perhaps.
I'm all for FOSS in games, but realistically I suspect it'll be decades before we see any traction in this direction due to the complexity of modern games (art, music, script, voice, animations, textures, AI, physics, shader programming, core programming, plus any other middleware etc).

I try to not let me get spoilered till I get my deck sometime this month. I had the suspicion, this was going to be mainly a controls and gyro tutorial and I'm glad that's what it is. For the Deck to really show it's full potential, the users must be introduced to gyro, there's no way around it. Tutorial games are amazing, not only for this, but also for setting up standards for other games. I hope more will follow.

I tried the beta with my gamepad and couldn't find how to throw away stuff from the inventory with the gamepad. Was killed because my char didn't move an inch any more because of *overweight*. :D
Everything else worked pretty well. Can imagine it playing amazing with the steamdeck controls.

Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck

The time of contracted ports is probably over. Proton dominates and if our marketshare grows, we may see transition to inhouse ports and hopefully a lot of games that are built upon Vulkan or even multi-platform to the core. Or not. What counts is that games run well and everyone trying Linux can find something to enjoy.

Quoting: GuestI think it depends on who's doing the port. Almost all of Ethan Lee's ports are still supported and being updated to run on Steam Deck.Ethan did a lot because he cares deeply for our hobby. You can't ask for that level of commitment from a porting house like Feral or Aspire.

Roguebook adds a timed Tournament system, new character DLC

Yet I'm really hungry for Deckbuilders since the first time I played Dominion. My rack is filled with so many iterations from clank over cubitos to arnak. Deckbuilding is just fun, digital or analogue. :D

Quoting: scainePart of the reason why I played so much StS is that it's the perfect game to play on my tablet when going to bed. It's really more meditative then anything else, but still fun for me. Never tried any fancy modes, just choosing one of the chars and try to find some way to make it through alive.Quoting: constI played 100 hours or so of StS and loved it. So much, in fact, that I ended up going down a dark road looking for StS-like games, like Hand of Gilgamesh, DreamGate and even sank 20 hours into the excellent (but naughty, and non-native) Neoverse.Quoting: scaineAbsolutely zero interest in the tournament stuff, but a new DLC character is welcome, although synergies between existing characters are already superb, so it'll interesting to discover how they've woven in an entirely new angle! That comment just cost me 16 Euros. Slay the Spire might be my most played game of all time.
This is a genuinely superb game. It surpasses its own inspiration - I'd rather play this than Slay the Spire any day of the week.
I "only" have 70 hours in Roguebook, but given how many of these games I've played now, to find one this good was just pure joy. The character synergies are superb, and you're MUCH more likely to find a synergy during a run than you are with StS. Does that make the game easier? Maybe. But the excellent unlocks and ramping (but optional) handicaps keep the game fresh, all the while looking for that new synergy.
Can't recommend it enough.
(although I've also got one eye on Monster Train... the rabbit hole is real)

Easier to ignore us. If valve makes the game somewhat playable, people will buy.
Feral had a key role in making LinuxGaming as awesome as it is today. It's sad they are not profiting from the current momentum. At the same time it's awesome we are not dependent on porting houses and their ability to get publishers into a contract any more. These contracts often were strangely restricted, we are aware of that for a long time. It's not their games and if the publisher doesn't make it worthwhile for them, they have done their job and are not forced to do work for no pay. Times have changed and they are free to go on. We should wish them luck and maybe they will play a role in the future.

Quoting: GuestAbsolutely disgusting statement from Feral but their GNU+Linux native games will work on any distro. It's not like they can restrict them to Ubuntu.Such comments really disturb me and it happens again and again. If a company invests in Linux gaming and drops out or just skips a title for any reason, everyone screams evil and boycot.
I'm not buying anymore games they've ported or developed going forward, which is fine by me.

The other levels by that modder though are among the finest I've played. All in all, the community levels go all over the place in production value, riddle quality, etc.
That's certainly part of the fun, but also shows the limitation of the rating system in the workshop.
I hope they continue to improve their linux build, but my biggest wish was for them to mark community levels you already played in the UI. That's making me crazy :D

Quoting: EhvisLittle Emily makes my PC halt until the process gets killed. This was actually the first thing I tried after the update, but it is still happening. Didn't really investigate what's going on.Quoting: constWill try. There were a lot of graphical issues that sometimes made community levels unplayable before. Most notably with overlapping faces with opposite normals, which happened a lot with posters etc. Most community maps seem to have some issues indeed. If it's not z-fighting or lighting problems, it's fps drops. Still good fun. Another, less annoying, issue is that you can often take items right from closed closets or chests if you look at them from the right angle.
Played a map called "Little Emily". Turns out that it is totally viable to upgrade this game to a full on horror game.
