The Pale Beyond sold 10% of copies on Steam Deck

Here goes a funny thought. Around 1% of the users who doesn't their steam client are running Linux, SD or otherwise. But how many people got steam to play some CS or pubg or other popular game but never pay anything else? Actually, probably a lot of users simply start steam because they marked the start on boot checkbox but they don't mind it at all.

Now, the steam deck is basically a console meant to play first and foremost, most of the people who wake the device are going to play.

So it stands to reason that people using SD are going to play and buy more than the average steam user on pc.

So maybe the weight of the steam deck in the market is far superior than our sad 1%. If other developers are having similar figures it would mean we are not negligible anymore ^^

Maybe Liam could reach to some developers to ask about sd sales and check whether this is a trend or an exception? 😁

Quoting: fabertaweWhat about adding an option for Steam Deck ownership and which version?
This. Right now it is my main gaming device but I would feel silly filling out the hardware details manually. Besides, it is my main gaming device but not my main Linux machine which I also use to game (actually the stats would be kinda boring if we start counting SD this way).

I would like an additional question:

Do you own a Steam Deck ( or any other Linux powered handheld gaming device)?
1. No
2. Yes, as a complement to my main machine
3. Yes, as my main gaming device
4. Yes, I use it for EVERYTHING

EA AntiCheat could spell trouble for Steam Deck / Linux

Since it comes from EA I have to ask, do we know if it has abusive micro transactions embedded?

I dunno, like it only protects you from low level cheaters unless you pay more: auto-aim protection upgrade and the like

Linux user share on Steam continues the slow climb, SteamOS rises

I would like to make a suggestion for the steam traker. I think the regression does not make sense anymore since the paradigm has changed. I would like to see another regression and another line starting with the release of the steam deck

Linux share on Steam hits highest peak in years thanks to Steam Deck

Some fun math: if last month SD were at ~5% and this month it is at 7.5%, it means an increment of 2.5%/month ( I know I'm making a lot of inaccurate assumptions but for this back of the envelope calculations I think they are ok). However, Valve just said they are more than doubling production so I would expect an increase of ~5%, which would put the SD at 12.5% of Linux usage, close to doubling it's previous number.

Let's see but if this prediction happens, I think we may start seeing the SD noticeable overall soon.

Microsoft chucks GNOME $10,000 from their FOSS Fund

Wow, that's a low amount. Besides being at most a rounding error for microsoft, it wont pay a GNOME developer for even half a year.

box86 and box64 get Steam Play Proton working much better on Arm devices
18 Apr 2022 at 3:54 pm UTC Likes: 3

This! This is what I think the future of the steam deck of gonna be. With a powerful enough ARM soc (something similar to the apple M1 for example of the competition ever manages to catch up *sigh*) we could get a big expansion in battery life.

And actually, I have been following these projects for some time and I have the impression they are picking up speed largely. I wouldn't be surprise if in a couple of months it is revealed the developers are being funded by Valve. Like it happened with DXVK. Pure speculation here of course.

On a different note, the stack of Linux gaming is getting pretty funny:

x86 win game -> proton -> pressure vessel -> box86 -> the actual OS
I wonder how many more layers we manage to put in between :D
