Quoting: Darkdisorder78Interesting. I can not find the steam machines anymore on the danish alienware and dell sites. And when I go from the Steam shop where it still is listed I get to the link http://www.dell.com/dk/p/alienware-steam-r2-console/pd.aspx [External Link] where it says the product is no longer available. It is possible to change the country code to de, se, en-uk and so on for different european sites and they all say the product is no longer available.Quoting: monsieursauceWhat about Steam machines ? I cannot find a purchase page on Dell's Alienware website. I would have rather bought one Steam machine than a controller only. Why do people think the Steam Machines aren't being sold anymore? Where are you ? These are some links to the Alienware Steam Machine R2. Might be available in the US for now.

Has anyone got multiplatform multiplayer to work? The developers said they would investigate here but no news for the last few days: https://steamcommunity.com/app/373930/discussions/0/1471967615873254582/ [External Link]
Valve announce a new game that's not Half-Life 3, introducing 'Artifact', a card game

Or it is because they do like people to install it on their own systems and give feedback as long as its only a few that do that, they do not want to have millions to install SteamOS instead of Ubuntu Fedora, Arch etc as their main Linux distribution.
I think they see SteamOS more as a reference distribution for Linux gaming and it is what they offer to the steammachine builders like Alienware and Zotac. So maybe its they have a stable release for the prebuild systems, but anyone installing it themself should consider it as beta. Who knows...

Quoting: GuestYou have some good points there, I was not aware that the download page still stated beta. Right now there isnt a newer beta so we can not check if its brewmaster or brewmaster_beta, but I think it is the typical Valve thing about working on stuff they are intereted in and that no one thought about updating that download page:-)Quoting: RedfaceFirst google link when searching for "SteamOS download" points to this (at least for me):Quoting: GuestWonder what exactly is keeping SteamOS in beta...I see this come up from time to time here and other forums. I wonder where that impression that SteamOS still is in beta comes from. Probaly because of the almost missing marketing from Valve about SteamOS
SteamOS has a released non beta branch for like two years now. And a beta branch callled brewmaster_beta where updates are pushed to first before later being released to the released branch called brewmaster.
You can always see the latest updates to SteamOS and latest beta updates announced in stickied posts here. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/ [External Link]
Is it maybe because beta updates are more featured here on gol than when they get released as stable to brewmaster?
http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/download/?ver=custom [External Link]
( and you get to that page from here: http://store.steampowered.com/steamos/ [External Link] )
The button there is clearly called SteamOS Beta. And from here it comes the idea that it's still in beta.
Also in the first page with google search results for "SteamOS download" I don't see any link to steamcommunity...
I don't think the forum is the place to download an OS...
Even reading the FAQ ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/648814395741989999/ [External Link] ) is not that helpfull. It's wrote in an ambiguous way when they talk about 'brewmaster' ("brewmaster" is never called a stable release and "brewmaster_beta" is called a testing release, they basicaly let you understand what you want about "brewmaster" ) .
Or it is because they do like people to install it on their own systems and give feedback as long as its only a few that do that, they do not want to have millions to install SteamOS instead of Ubuntu Fedora, Arch etc as their main Linux distribution.

The recent Linux port teaser from Feral Interactive seems to be coming to Mac first now

Maybe Bioshock Remastered also has some middleware that has Windows and MacOS but no Linux support.

Quoting: GuestI doubt that it's anything to do with Metal. Feral are like VP, with their IndirectX layer. You would write this layer to target Metal on the Mac but there is absolutely no reason their existing GL code for Linux would not still be usable.Going with either OpenGL or Vulkan for Linux (they do have a Vulkan open beta for Mad Max and Dawn of War III has a Vulkan option built in too) will be additional work for developer, and QA for Linux has to be done too, but that was also the case when they still did OpenGL for Mac.
For Micro Machines, VP used Metal on the Mac because otherwise, the game ran like shit. However the Linux version uses GL because it runs just fine. So, as much as certain people want to blame Apple's Metal, I think it is more likely that it is a licensing thing.
Also, haven't Feral already done Vulkan stuff? If that's the case, IndirectX already has some Vulkan targeting.
Maybe Bioshock Remastered also has some middleware that has Windows and MacOS but no Linux support.
