Quoting: dubigrasuI can easily imagine that many will just strip SteamOS out of it and install Windows
I'm not sure they will. Installing an OS is a pain in the arse that most people don't do - it's one of the reasons why it's important that more vendors are pre-installing Linux. For non-gaming use cases you're not going to spend £500 on a device to use as an ebook reader or media device when there are way cheaper devices already available that will be better at those tasks (higher resolution screen, better battery life, no massive buttons), and for gaming use cases the experimental similar devices have had Windows being a detriment to the experience.
I'm pretty sure many will do that, basically almost all the Steam Machines (old and new) were stripped of SteamOS and went full Windows, the same with many Atari machines.
The poor game selection was definitely a factor for that, and hopefully it will be not the case for Steam Deck, but many gamers are enthusiast tinkerers and installing a familiar and proven OS is the least of their worries.
But those where sold to enthusiasts and they reinstall their Windows on a daily basis, the Steam Deck if successful will be sold to the masses and they will never ever try to install anything.

Quoting: dubigrasuWait, I see underneath paddles, 4 of them. Wasn't a big lawsuit about this?
Well the design of this was probably done before they got hit with that patent lawsuit. On the other hand perhaps they think that this new design isn't violating the patent or they have managed to license the patent (unlikely).
Who knows? It might not be considered a game controller, it's a handheld computer!

Most likely, Valve will probably pay for the rights to use the tech.
Well there is also the question if it's even possible to license that patent from Ironburg, many such patent holders never sell a single license and instead base their income on having exclusive rights to their "invention" or to sue for damages.

Quoting: KohlyKohlI'm concerned about the size. It looks to be about 150% larger than the Switch and that was already a bit uncomfortable (It often ends up resting on me).

I'm also concerned about the switch to Arch. I would have preferred a more stable distribution such as Ubuntu.

Still, at the price point + specs for the base model, it will be hard to talk myself out of purchasing this.
Seams to be slightly larger than the Wii U gamepad and that one was quite comfortable for me at least.

Currently it's limited to United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom with more regions becoming available in 2022.
Nothing for Norway then (or Switzerland, or Iceland or Luxemburg)? Or is this just a ploy to make us join the EU?
Nah it's a conspiracy to dismantle 7th of June 1905 and bring you guys back in the caring arms of Mother Svea

Quoting: F.UltraThat is your opinion, actual paedophilia survivors however paint a completely different picture:
That's not an opinion.
It is (both theoretically and practically) impossible to film sexualized minors without filming sexualized minors. Therefore, any new footage of that kind can only be obtained by actually doing it. Unlike e.g. war imagery, this cannot really be faked well.
Of course it's an opinion. If it where real sexualization of minors then the film would have been been classified as child pornography and been banned, especially over here where I live where even cartoons are criminalized as child pornography. Still that has not happened.

People (majority from the US for some reason) claim that Leon: The Professional promotes paedophilia or that Sleepwalkers promotes incest. Also opinions and not facts.

Quoting: F.UltraMeanwhile it looks like most of the outrage against the film comes from the religious right.
Well, I'm neither religious nor right-wing, and I haven't seen a majority of criticism of it coming in that light. Just people from all over the political spectrums criticizing the movie for what it is and/or how it was made.

But, sure, putting people who disagree with you in a box with other people you disagree with is always a nice thing to do.
I never claimed that you where either of those, I just wrote that this is where the major outrage seems to come from and not from actual survivors, it had zero to do with you as a person. I have zero knowledge of where you come from, your religious or political stance, nor do I care.

Quoting: TheSHEEEP"Something is bad, so let's make a movie doing EXACTLY what we think is bad to show how bad it is"
That is how films/books done to raise awareness of topics have been done since the invention of fiction. Compare with anti war movies like Platoon, Apocalypse Now and so on.

The controversy over Cuties was only over the initial poster (and mostly in the US alone) by Netflix, an act that the co-CEO of Netflix even apologised to the director for doing (most likely the marketing department didn't understand the film what so ever). Once released it has been given high scores by film critics and have a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Other than that I cannot comment further on this film because I have not seen it.

How We Know We're Alive - a free point & click mystery set in Sweden's bible belt

Quoting: whizseI didn't know Sweden had a second bible belt up north. Technically I think this should be bible suspenders.
AFAIK there isn't so not really sure what they mean by mid-north since the Bible belt is around Jönköping in the mid-south... Perhaps they are imagining such a belt just as they imagined the town of Härunga?

edit: And towns ending with -unga is extremely common in Västra Götaland around Gothenburg.
edit2: But then the Chief of Police talks about the road south to Stockholm so they are definitely north of Stockholm.
