Epic Games looking to make Vulkan the default API for Linux games in Unreal Engine
3 Aug 2017 at 12:26 pm UTC

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionAnd we were beginning to wonder if Epic had forsaken EU4 on Linux. But does this mean that all the current OpenGL issues (thinking of ARK, et al) will never get fixed?
They still released Fortnite last week with only Win+Mac support. Do they have Metal support for that or is the OpenGL support actually good enough?

ARK devs already said that OpenGL won't be fixed and that they will switch to Vulkan for that. In ARK time of course.

SimAirport, an airport design and management game is looking for Linux testers

Quoting: stretch611At least the good news is that they had overwhelming response.
An overwhelming response for a "free game". I'm not too sure everyone of the responders actually realise that testing is supposed to be more than just playing.

Linux game sales statistics from multiple developers, part 5

Frankly, the biggest problem for Linux as a platform appears to be the support problem. Of course this has two sides. Linux builds sometimes have problems that are not present in Windows builds. But the bigger problem still seems to be the dependency compatibility problem between all the different distros and installations. Even though most technically only support Ubuntu and/or SteamOS, there are still a lot of people that will dump distro specific problems in the support forums and reviews. If this problem isn't solved in some way, it could be a real danger for continued support by developers.

I've watched a few streams from this game. It looks fun, but needs quite a bit of work for the full thing.

ICY: Frostbite Edition, a narrative-driven post-apocalyptic survival RPG will release with Linux support

Quoting: darkszlufCame here because i thought it was ICEY and now i'm disappointed.
Could be worse. You could have come in here thinking it was about a Linux port of the Frostbite engine. :P

The Long Dark officially leaves Early Access tomorrow, check out their launch trailer

Quoting: TobiSGDI will believe it when I see it. We had a launch trailer already for the story mode back in 2015: http://hinterlandgames.com/the-long-dark-story-mode-teaser/ [External Link]
No reason to doubt an announcement made a few days before the release. The linked video is a teaser, not a launch trailer, so not the same thing.

Looks like Cosmic Star Heroine could have a Linux version soon
31 Jul 2017 at 11:41 am UTC

Quoting: Alm888So yeah! A developer testing declared Linux version after release… it tells something about their skills.
I don't see this changing any time. The market share simply needs to be higher for people to start caring earlier. Unless of course, as happens with some projects, one of the devs likes working on Linux and will automatically keep an eye on it.

Quoting: tuubiIt's low, but still higher than most SNES and Playstation classics. I know it's not much of an excuse, if there is indeed need for one.
True, but I was comparing them to the RPGMaker games, which are usually 640x480. Most RPGs I played were at a resolution of 256x212. :P

Nicely drawn, but the 480x270 resolution seems a bit too low to me.

Quoting: KetilIt is designed in a way that I can start small, and expand when I have materials, so no need for a temporary base either.
Of course you need to start in a relatively open area so that it's clearly visible for potential raiders. :P
