OpenGL vs Vulkan in Mad Max, re-tested

Quoting: edddeduck_feralOlliC was talking about the workaround we had to add to the game to avoid issues with the governor on Linux when using Vulkan.
Ah, is that it. It is a bit weird that Ubuntu defaults to powersave on desktops. I should go write a bug report though. ;)

OpenGL vs Vulkan in Mad Max, re-tested

Tomorrow Unigine Superposition will be released. This will show us all that we desperately need new hardware. We'll be ready for the next generation of games. :D

Quoting: OlliCI was wondering why there was still one core with 100% on Vulkan. That explains it.
Probably because Mad Max in itself is not a game well optimised for using all cores. Vulkan can reduce the port overhead, it cannot make a game better.

I my experience, the improvement is much better in bad areas. In line with the Tyrant's Lash benchmark. So the improvement is really noticeable where it counts.

Quoting: ThePierrasseCan we get an updated comparison between Vulkan and OpenGL?
The best comparisons are the ones you make yourself. Find a place where the game was struggling before and watch the Vulkan magic happen.

F1 2016 won't be coming to Linux, as sales of F1 2015 weren't strong enough

This is probably extremely difficult for a porter. It follows the F1 seasons and will be "old" before it is released. With the 2015 version not being a great one, I'm not actually surprised that it didn't do too well.

IIRC, Mac didn't get F1 2015, so I hope that this one for Mac will be better for them.

Transport Fever releases a big usability patch, Linux version performance still an issue

I'm playing this game on 3440x1440 on lesser hardware and I have never seen the frames drop to 10 fps. The worst was just below 20. Usually it is looking at certain angles in certain direction that gives you a view with a lot of complexity that does it. I simply change the view and go on. I do need to make sure that I don't keep too many views open. If you enjoy the game, that is really not a big deal. Besides, performance issues will happen with games that give you complete freedom.

Ballistic Overkill is one Unity title that may see an update with Vulkan

A game persistently running at 100 fps doesn't really need the Vulkan treatment as much, but I it is always nice to see it supported. It may help bring some of the lower specced players to the game.

Some notes and benchmarks about a performance regression in Mad Max's OpenGL rendering

I've tested the old version against the new Vulkan in a couple (non benchmark) camps that gave me very low frames before. The bad one increased from 22 to 35, which is a big difference. Note that this is at very high settings and on 3440x1440. That changes the game from stuttery to perfectly playable. I just wish that NVidia would get G-SYNC working on Vulkan.

I have noticed a couple of graphical artefacts though. At one point the canteen flashed before filling it up. Another one was that I saw some flashing white lines that looked like they could have been ground mesh edges. Haven't been able to screenshot them, so I may have to try and screen capture a video.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLNow you can port The Wi†cher 3 for Linux using Vulkan. End of excuses.
Except for that little excuse called permission.
