I wonder how all these "free" games are affecting the future of the games industry. I have so many free games (and quite a few are actually good) that I technically don't have to spend any money on them to keep myself entertained. And I'm certainly not the only one. I wouldn't be surprised if this style of marketing has some long term repercussions.

Quoting: dibzWell, it's the publisher's fault in this case, it's actually a pretty well-known story. Bethesda forced Arkane Studios to use the name Prey for Prey (2017), despite them being very much against it.A very Zenimax thing to do. I don't think they have ever shown any signs that they cared about the industry one bit. They acquired Bethesda to abuse the name up to a point that almost nobody seems to remember that Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks have nothing to do with each other. There is a strong indication that they had only one motive: create as much appearance of future revenue so that they can be sold for a high price before everything implodes.

Quoting: BalkanSpyIt is nice that someone is working hard on a non-VR mod. But yeah, the movement and gunplay look just too stiff and janky.Doubt it will ever live up to expectations. It suffers the same problems that many flat -> VR ports have. They can kind of make it work, but it never feels as if the mechanics of the game feel well thought out. A game that was designed and balanced for human motion won't ever feel right as a flat game.
Hopefully one day it will be almost as fluid as the VR version.

7 Days to Die gets another huge overhaul in Alpha 21

I that doors are one of the few things made easier by VR.
Played a bunch of hours in A21 now.
The changes to water seem a bit unbalanced. Found a water filter mod on day 1, put it in a hood and infinite water to drink without cost. I get what they were trying to do, but it doesn't feel like this was the most interesting way they could have handled it.
Skill tree is better now, but with a caveat. Moving the crafting skills to be unlocked by looting magazines is a nice idea as looting is core gameplay. But it has put RNG into your crafting skills, which is not good. I'm now around 10 days in and still can't make workbench because I don't seem to get the right magazines. Yet I am a whole tier up in weapons that I don't even use. This thing needs some balancing to make core components less sensitive to RNG.
World generation, POIs, variety are great. So good to have something new around every corner.
Performance has been great for me. I play with "-force-vulkan" and while I haven't checked out a big city with skyscrapers yet, mid sized towns have been mostly locked at 60 fps. I have seen a few interesting "optimisation artifacts", like buildings popping in when you jump to look over a wall, but those I'll take when it performs.
The new dynamic lighting is a bit overdone. During rainy days you can step from daylight into pitch black by setting one foot in a building or room.
Overall I'm pleased with how it plays. Still room for improvement, but the they are clearly on their way to polish the experience and make it more accessible.

If we start with that attitude, we can continue until nothing is left.

Quoting: ssj17vegetaI see the (good) intention behind this, but I see no positive outcome for them or the devs.I don't think there is much of an "intention" here. The whole AI and "rights" thing seems to be in legal limbo right now and I can imagine that Valve just doesn't want to get burned by it until it's resolved.

Quoting: Purple Library Guy"One Lonely Outpost to get Linux support"The advantage is that we can wait until there is a better product. Going by the reviews (both positive and negative) the game does seem to need quite a bit more time in the oven.

The latest Volcanoids update looks electrifying

Quoting: LungDragoHow does this game fare when compared to Forever Skies? They both have the premise of having a mobile base instead of a static one, which I find interesting.I'd say not too much. I only played the demo of Forever Skies, so don't have a complete picture. The one thing you might not realise is that Volcanoids is fairly combat heavy. There is base building and crafting (manufacturing would be a better term here), but it's all in service of combat and gaining access to other places. Haven't played the last couple of Volcanoids updates though. Got quite far at one point and decided to leave it until it was closer to final release.

Started VR for the first time on KDE and it gave me the 109 error as well. Started it again and everything was fine and played three games in about four hours without issues. Clearly something is up because I've never seen this error on gnome.
