Fanatical have another great bundle of Steam Deck Verified games

Quoting: scaineWell... sure? They're tracking the payment to Liam's account in this case though. Up you, of course. I wasn't suggesting that we should all do this, I was just pointing out the easiest route to help support GOL financially.

It's a shame so many affiliate links use tracking methods though. Also a shame that Steam doesn't offer an affiliate scheme - there would be decent money in that, I'd think!
I'm sure they're at least attempting to track a whole lot more than that. In fact, I suspect that this is the way their now trying to fund this whole thing. Because why would a store go trough all the trouble of using an external company when they still have to collect all the data themselves? I don't trust any of the schemes at all and each of those domains gets a full block. It's unfortunate that I can't use the links anymore, but to me these links are no better than tracked ads.

Quoting: scaineJust a quick note on the Fanataical links - if you're running a PiHole on default settings, you'll have to whitelist www.anrdoezrs.net and www.emjcd.com. This is similar to the issue faced with GOG affiliation, which used track.adtraction.com.

Also, uBlock Origin will complain about the first URL, but that's easily overriden/allowed by buttons on the block page, so less of an issue.
Sounds to me like those things are doing their job in preventing unnecessary tracking. I see no reason to change that.

The 'Heavy Machinery' update for survival game Volcanoids looks awesome

Quoting: WorMzyGah, another game that seems to hardcode keyboards as being qwerty layout.

I'll give it a go, but it might take some getting used to.
I can play it, so it must have key rebinding.

Quite enjoyed it when I played through at least half of it last year. Left the rest until it was properly finished. A bit of an odd, but pretty good game.

Quoting: setzer22Ok, ok, I'll stop. I'm just a bit skeptical about their priorities, is all
Because AMD priorities are to serve your needs?
Actions speak far louder than words, and AMD has committed a lot of code and continues to do so.
And nvidia has supported Linux with drivers for 20 years. Doesn't matter. Both are large companies with big shareholders. Only one things counts. Today that path may benefit us, tomorrow it may be the opposite. It's a means to an end, nothing more.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw and some reflection on Steam Reviews
16 Sep 2022 at 2:02 pm UTC Likes: 8

Steam reviews can give you a wealth of information. But you need to actually read them to get it. I always try to read reviews from both sides and understand the "why" for a positive or negative.

The thumbs up/down is still a bit of a problem though. It works polarising as is the case with many such systems. A neutral option would go a long way in mitigating that.

EA AntiCheat could spell trouble for Steam Deck / Linux

Well, this year's Fifa will be the last made by EA. They will do their own game then and Fifa will give the license to other developers.
Huh, really? That would be awesome! But why would EA wanted to get rid of one of its most successful IPs?
Because they believe that the players will stay with them for their gameplay with shitty macrotransactions even if they don't have real names in there. That way they could keep a boat load of money for themselves. I'm not so sure.

I'm trying to care about this. Really. But.... it's EA, so I failed.

W4 Games raised $8.5 million USD to support Godot Engine
13 Sep 2022 at 3:19 pm UTC

Quoting: DrMcCoyNot sure I like that. Taking venture capital money is like making a deal with the devil: there's always a price. They want to see a return in their investment, after all, and an extremely high return at that.
The good thing seems to be that it is not tied to Godot itself. Just a separate company that should provide Godot services.
