It's almost certainly not GOL's "partners" who will be bringing Steam machines into commercial availability (unless there's some huge stuff going on!).

"How to Win" is a direct quote, as well.

Cool!  I just got this title (won from a contest, as a matter of fact) and it's very odd and very atmospheric.  I'm enjoying it as a puzzle exploration experience, and although there are similar elements for sure, it feels very different to me than Myst.  It's hard to describe why, to be honest, but then again, Kairo is hard to describe in general.  You did a good job, I think :)

Also, for those coming late to the party, LIMBO in HIB9 (and indeed, every Linux release of LIMBO) is a Codeweavers-supported Wine wrap.  I mostly works for me, but others have reported quirks, so caveat emptor.

The gameplay footage looks a lot like a tech demo of the environmental deformation feature they teased in the pitch video.  They'll definitely need to add more definite mechanics to coherently describe NPCs, and add either text (or, much less likely, voice acting) to bring out an emergent story.  At this point, what might be NPCs do not seem to have any AI or interaction coded up, nor does the PC seem to have any agency (i.e., other than being customized and "glyphed" by the player).  I would assume that after "customizing" your Nowherian-player-character-sphere-dude, you'd be able to... fly around and interact with stuff.

So, at this point, I'd consider the alpha to be more of a trippy, colorful, interactive toy.

Unless I'm totally wrong, and the part where he drilled a hole through the sphere was actually symbolic of the discovery of one of the four major Nowherian belief systems :P

Either way, it's weird as hell, and... strangely, I think I like it.

I think less "funny" than "frustrating".  This hit-and-miss sort of thing has always been my experience with Wine.  And even when I get a setup going that works, then eventually I apply updates or patches to the OS, Wine, or the game itself, and things break.  Most of the time, I did the update itself to address some issue with something (be it security patches, or getting newer games and other software to work).  Until Wine operates within expectations at least at the level that DOSbox does (yes, with the occasional wart/glitch) at least for games up through 2007 or so, I'm pretty much fed up with it.

Arma Tactics Turn Based Strategy To Come To Linux

Way more interesting to me than the FPS, despite it's well-regarded attention to realism.  Turn-based strategy (tactics, in this case) is one of my favorite game styles, aside from adventure games... which I guess is "turn-based storytelling" ^_^

I hope they'll consider a DRM-free version of the title someday.

Samsai, this is incredibly helpful to me!  I've been making my own gameplay videos as well, and have really struggled with it.  My videos are not intended to be entertaining, however.  They're more for capturing details of game engine bugs for discussing them with other developers, so making it nicely polished isn't terribly important.

What is important is the audio/video sync and capturing the audio stream directly off the card, rather than what I've been doing with RecordMyDesktop which is, of course, the worst of both worlds... a single mic input, capturing audio off the speakers along with whatever noise is happening nearby :(

I appreciate the great work you're doing on the GOL cast.  Thanks, and keep it up!

Thanks for putting so much time and care into this, Sabun.  This is valuable research on many levels!  One is objectively comparing the patch's characteristics to the stable wine release (which is, of course the focus), but another is demonstrating a round-up of old and modern games.  I know you're not the only one doing Linux gaming-on-Wine videos, but this will be a great one to point to when I'm asked how I feel about Wine gaming.

Which is, of course, that it's a mixed bag, and is simply too variable to consider a robust experience.  Certainly there will be times when you get a game working well, perhaps with no special configurations, or PlayOnLinux makes it work correctly out-of-the-box.  Then... you feel triumphant, and have a great session.

Then, there will be other times when you purchase a game, you read the forums, you did what everyone said, patching & spinning Wine builds, and it's just a complete dismal failure.  So disappointing.

There are, of course, technical reasons for each outcome, but to an average Linux gamer (which I surely consider myself), it's like rolling the dice with no expectation of success, and it's hard to broadly describe that feeling.  Your video has that feeling, and shows the effort you're willing to go to for an enjoyable experience, while also helping the community.
