Quoting: ShmerlIn regards to future proofing - hard to say. On one hand you don't want to change monitors often. On the other hand they do improve gradually. I think the most practical is to have a monitor that's somewhat better than you current GPU can saturate. So over a few GPU upgrades it will sync up. But not too much better. Since by the time that will sync up, new monitors at that time will be better in some other ways too. Thanks, some good advice. I'll have to think some more about what I want to get.

Very interesting discussion of framerates! I'm starting fresh on monitors this coming year (after moving internationally and passing on my old one), and I was thinking of making the jump from 60 Hz to something higher like 144 Hz. After reading this discussion, might it be worth going even higher (like 240 Hz, say) as a sort of future-proofing? (I'm planning on using whatever monitor I get for as many years as possible.) Variable-refresh rate would be a given, which I gather should smooth over issues where I can't actually reach the maximum possible FPS, right?

Mele Kalikimaka from Hawaii!
All I want for Christmas this year is for the ship with my gaming rig (and the rest of my stuff being moved) on it to hurry up and get processed at Los Angeles, so it can get redirected to me out here in the Pacific so I can stop gaming on this crappy MacBook Pro and get back to gaming on Linux!

This means Intel joins the ranks of AMD, NVIDIA, AWS, Epic MegaGrants, Unity, Facebook and Decentraland at the same level (with many more in lower funding levels).Wouldn't that be Meta?
But seriously, that's great news.

Quoting: zen_xenoHave you seen the amount of robotics Valve invested in to manufacture the controllers? It was a lot. [External Link] They didn't make that investment without a long term goal in mind. Those manufacturing robots can be reconfigured to assemble a new controller with different parts. Honestly, watch the video, it's cool. How have I never seen this video!? That's amazing! :woot: And I love the Aperture logos on the machines.
Cities: Skylines Airports DLC announced for release in January

This sounds like fun! I'm hoping they've basically adapted the system used for parks, college campuses, and industrial areas to airports (it's a little hard to tell, but the whole "airport progression" system sounds like that sort of thing). I've seen mods that allow you to kind of modularly place airports, but having it be in the base game will likely be much better.
Though, full disclosure, despite putting 84 hours into this game I've yet to develop a city large enough to unlock airports. But I'm really planning on sticking it out with the latest city I've been developing, I'm getting better at handling the public transport necessary to run larger cities instead of just having everything run on cars.

For some reason that shot on the upper left with the case closed makes it look way longer and skinnier. Must just be the perspective, I've seen the shots of it in people's hands so I know roughly how it looks, but...huh.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWell, maybe I'll wishlist that.So I just realized the Terraformers: First steps on Mars free "prologue" released a few days ago, and having given it a go it's basically like the demo (a 30-turn limited game) with some updates and differences (you used to be able to sell resources to get money which you in turn could use to buy resources, now all trading is strictly between resources, and is limited per-turn by the number of "trade routes" you have, how you build on the planet is a little more constrained, some rebalancing, etc.). You could check it out to see if you want the full game.
